What are the EGT textures ?

Those who have tried of creating a new creature race with costume meshes and textures should know what I'm talking about.

So when I want to add a new race,or even a new static architecture piece, the Creation Kit's dialogue asks me to choose an EGT texture instead of a DDS.

What are EGTs ??

How do I create one ?

Yes,but how to make a new race if it asks me for egt textures and there is no way to create egt files ?

Is there an egt plugin for photoshop ?

Or is there another workaround I don't know off ?

Please tell me.

My new creatures mod is stuck.

:(

I'd like to know the answer to this too, because I'd like to start playing with custom skin textures for a custom race, but there is no point if I can't use them in the Creation Kit.

If you create a custom race, go to Body Data and look under "Body Texture" it points to an EGT file. Trying to select something else is not possible as the browser is locked to look only for EGT files.

Therefore Skyrim must use them and there must be some way of creating an EGT file... One hopes.

Bumping up this topic as I have run into a similar problem. Attempting to make an Amazonian race and have gotten permission to use some muscle textures for it. Problem is, they are all DDS and I don't know what the Hell an EGT is. Any ideas?

EGTs are a facegen texture container file. Inside them are usually a bunch of low res blend and mask maps.

There are tools to unpack and repack them. Along with a blank egt file resource. search TESnexus for them. But I don't think you are going to have any luck with trying to get them to work instead of dds files.

just a guess but is it possible that the .egt file could actually have something to do with the texture sets, introduced in fallout 3 that allow for the use use of multiple sets of textures with a single 3d model?

SOLUTION HERE

Since this is a moderately searched subject, I thought I'd be kind enough to post my findings since no one else seems to know what anyone's talking about or how to fix this issue.

To change a custom classes texture all you need to do is (preferably) copy and paste an existing class. Rename that class (to something memorable).

Now, open the class by double-clicking your new class. At the top, click Body Data (tab). UNDERNEATH Body Texture (actors\character\upperbodyhumanfemale.egt) there is an option for a Skin.

Open a new object window, click the *All section at the bottom and type (in the search box) for SkinNaked.

Find the one that correlates to the class you duplicated. Duplicate that skin and rename it to SkinNaked(your class).

IMPORTANT!!! >> Double click the new skin you made and at the top there's a drop-down that says "Race" Choose your custom race you made.

Now, in that same window, towards the bottom-middle (above the cancel button) there's a box with three models in it. The box is called Models with a show all button. Open three new object windows and in the *all tab search for each one; NakedTorso, NakedHands, NakedFeet.

Duplicate each and rename them all NakedTorso(your class), NakedHands(your class), NakedFeet(your class). Now open each one >>>IMPORTANT<<< at the top in the Race drop-down menu, choose your custom race.

Assuming you know how to make a texture and import it as a reference, choose your new model textures under the male and female tab for each drop-down. Double check under the Biped Object that the coorelating texture-to-biped is checked (aka SkinBodyFemaleFeet :: Biped Object = Feet)

Now, once you've changed all your texture references, re-open SkinNaked(custom class) and delete the textures at the bottom in the Models box (unless they already contain the ones from your model!)

If the model box has the wrong ones and you've deleted them, right click, click new and find your models. If this step didn't work for you and the model didn't add the the box, go two paragraphs up where it says >>>IMPORTANT<<< and pay attention.

Anyway, just thought I'd post this in case someone else (like myself) tries to find information on this issue and can't, now there's an answer.

Hey it's been a while but I did happen to find the answer, if you were still searching...
