Where do you get Update.esm?

Have Skyrim, purchased through Steam. Was running fine. Using MMO, I was made to create an Overwrite Mod. While cleaning out some old Mods I no longer use I wasn't thinking and deleted the Overwrite Mod. This, in turn, deleted my Update.esp. I'm not enough of a techie to understand why or how that happened.

Anyhow, following the advice here I poked around a bit and did what a few recommended - verified integrity of game cache. It informed me that files were missing and downloaded them, fixing my problem.

To do this, right click on Skyrim in your games list in your Steam homepage. Click on Properties. Click on Verify Integrity of Game Cache. Let it do it's thing.

downloaded wrybash, got nothing as far as update.esm

You wont get Update.esm through Wryebash. You get it through Steam.

1.Load Steam.

2.From the Library section, right-click on the game and select Properties from the menu.

3.Select the Local files tab and click the Verify Integrity of game cache button.

4.Steam will verify the game's files - this process may take several minutes.

5.Once the process is completed, the Check Window will automatically exit.

UPDATE WITH STEAM. UPDATE WITH STEAM. NOT HARD.

If you have a no steam version then you must message a member of staff here and tell them where you got and they will point you in the right direction....

Skyrim is a Steam Exclusive game - if you really don't know what that means, Steam is the ONLY legal way to play the game - ANY other way is considered piracy. Just because you may have purchased a disk from some retailer you still must register the game through steam before you can play. At that time your game is updated to the current version with any needed patches. If steam does not recognize your disk as legitimate - you got ripped off by whoever sold you a bogus disk. Don't blame steam for that. If you downloaded the game from some torrent, who knows what you got or what they changed to get it to work. Or what they may have added that you didn't really want.

Piracy
We have a strict anti-piracy policy and we take a proactive and preemptive stance on anyone who gives us reason to believe is using a pirated version of any game or software. We only support official game versions and users should not provide help to others requesting help with unofficial game versions (e.g. cracked games). If your on-site activities provide us with sufficient evidence that you are a software pirate then you will be instantly banned. If you ask for help with a cracked game then your posts or topics may be set to hidden or deleted, and persisting to ask for help with your cracked copy may result in your account being banned.

More information on our anti-piracy policy can be found on our forums.
