Argh!
Now after the update Skyrim CTD after the splash screen. I guess I'll have to test around with the load order.
A clumsy update? Nooo...
Edit: Ahem...
Turns Out I had installed a mod wrong. Who would have guessed? I mean it's not the first thing you think about when an Elder Scrolls game suddenly start crashing.
Right.

I just phoned home and begged my GF to unplugg the ethernet cable. I left the game running but paused, anybody know if Steam dl's patches while the game is actually running?
Would be nice not to get ninja'd by this one before the fixes are available.

Steam will download only when you close the game.
You are safe

The patch was made live today, it went right through my "Don't update this game"... probly because it deals with steam workshop. If you don't want to update yet, run steam offline or unplug the computer.
Now I have to try and deal with the mess it left...

My Skyrim is set to don't update and it has never automatically updated for me..... but Steam is known to change this setting for you, want to know how to avoid this problem? Instead of exiting Steam by closing it and its icon, choose to go in to OFFLINE MODE first, and THEN close the program and icon. Then when you reload Steam again, choose to open it in OFFLINE MODE, and THEN choose to go in to standard online mode - this'll stop Steam automatically updating Skyrim.
Edit: And to those of you experiencing weird (sometimes graphical) glitches after this new patch, uninstall then re-install all appropriate mods. Start Skyrim, save the game, exit, then re-load as per usual.

The only safe way to stop Steam from updating your game is to keep it offline.
