Kurosu, try the Bard's College.

I have no idea what it's for, but You won't become a guildmaster there. Actually, there's only an entry quest, a party and 3 quests from teachers. And that's ALL! Character becomes a bard after the entry quest, but he can't sing or play anything.
Maybe Bethesda made it especially for the people tired of leading the other guildmasters do their death?

i see your point here.i actually dont count bard college as a "faction".all you do is finding stuff belonging to the bards.and true you cant sing or nothing.the only thing you can do is help a guy writing the burning of olaf ( something like that).plus bards college dont even have a leader,the only reason i went there was because those quest help you improve your stats,the other 4 factions are way more realistic and better.

well being harbinger is hardly being a leader, the companions say that themselves and lets face it, kodlak barely did anything as harbinger, he simply offered wisdom. Being listener was abit strange at first because you weren't officially the leader, but then stuff happened, and boom you are officially the leader, thieves guild needed more quests but was quite solid, the college wasn't anything special and honestly i always found the mages guild/ fighters guild type things to be too mundane tho i did like the companions questline a lot more than any fighters guild questline. Yet again the DB questlines were the most interesting for me and definenently the most rewarding financially as well as fame wise. I was really impressed with the thieves guild quests narrative compared to oblivion. In other words... Harbinger: not really a leader in any real sense though it makes sense considering all that you did for kodlak on such a short time, Arch-mage: still as boring as ever,
guildmaster for thieves: you will have to work quite a bit for this but man is it cool to achieve and if you become guildmaster long after completing the main thieves quests it will be nice to see some familiar faces and it is a real coming full circle type of experience.
Listener: You assassinated an emperor, his cousin, the son of the emperors captain of the guard, a disgruntled beggar, a vampire, an annoying bard, a bandit leader, and killed the leader of your sanctuary by her request and are one of the last surviving members of the dark brotherhood, plus you've been named the listener by the night mother herself, if you aren't going to lead the brotherhood, who will? Its your inherent right!

The Thieves' guild is the only good storyline to a faction. Let's face it, you never saw Mercer's betrayal coming.

Being Harbinger of the Companions really means that you are basically respected by everyone in the group.

Companions never actually had a proper leader since Ysgramor.

Well the bad thing I guess in every faction is that they are ancilliary to the main quest you have as dragonborn. The DB one you should end up dead if you really want to please Sithis! Everyone must do at some point. With the mages it's pretty much instant Archmagery based on the demise of the surprisingly dimwitted and incapable incumbent. The Companions quest is a little diverting but it doesn't actually go anywhere until Kazaam! There you are as leader. The only faction that seems to be worthwhile is the Thieves one but I haven't tried that yet and am saving that for a specific character. I should mention that as far as 1st person RPGs are concerned I see little point in doing "the lot" in one character. Each faction should I think be experienced by the pc as a separate character to fully embrace the RPG element of the game if of course you like playing different character styles.

Even though the race menu gives you the usual options in Skyrim if you are not a Nord you are from time to time going to encounter some serious prejudice during the game

This is a great game but I am surprised that no one (unless this is going to be released as an add on or a separate game) has developed a critical path whereby you as DB can become the new Talos or equivalent (smelling of dog or not). The old High king was weak by all accounts and nothing more than a puppet for the defeated Imperials. Ulfric is a bigot and an opportunist power grabber (he is a Jarl). Just take one look at his holding to see how he runs it. Neither High King (Imperial controlled) or the Jarl of Windhelm represent a really desirable choice as a future ruler. Choosing the lesser of two weevils is hardly and ideal selection criteria! Torvigg's widow is there and looking for guidance or something! There are various poilitical paths open for exploitation to become High King or Queen yourself

He who kicks dragon butt marries Torvigg's widow or Ulfric (then has him quietly assassinated). Next episode The conquest of Cyrodiil riding a dragon and loads of Altermi/Thalmor butt kicking!

Nice thought but not Bethseda's style perhaps!

Seeing what you posted tells me you have not done all the DB questing paths. There are options you either missed or never thought of. You don't always get offered the opportunity of becoming the listener. There are 2 major points in the main BD quest line that can change the outcome. Now go find them.

The mage faction is a big let down. The start had promise and the eye led you to believe it was going to be special. it wasn't. The ONLY thing i ended up liking about the Mage guild was getting that ring/key to open labryinthia and the other is the key for the Galdur amulet part. I now dump 5K gold each in a respawn barrel (just so i don't feal like I'm cheating) and console the things to me so I don't have to even go near the college. Other mage quests that pop-up, I remove VIA console.

The Thief guild I think is the best faction. You can still do meaningful things long after the main quest is done. You get to explore and really see things from a thieves point of view. You get to hear more about that Falmor, some of their beliefs and more lore of the Daedric. That is, if you role play.

The companions quest is too broken to enjoy. I have never once finished it without haveing to console my way through a broken part. I feel its so bad, I don't even attempt it. I keep hoping the Giant at the very first encounter just outside Whitrun kills one (or all) of them. The quest line seemed really well thought out, but lost all interest for me due to its under tested buggy nature.

You are quite right I have not done the DB path but it seems to me logically that you just need to end up dead as I guess does most everyone else in that faction. After all Sithis IS insatiable . I did kill Athis?rather than murder one of the hostages in the shack on the marsh - I just changed the rules to suit myself. Her final words curiously were "Well Done" I got stuck in that because the quest line gave me no option but to kill the head of the orphanage

I agree about the companions quest line. Have you tried to take down a giant in the early part of the game? One blow and "squish!" endof! That could have been fleshed out more

I enjoyed playing a thief in Oblivion. It sort of fitted the role of jailbait and Blades Agent. In Skyrim the role is different and anyone who is not a mead swilling homicidal maniac is generally frowned upon by most of the population. Role playing anything but a Nord puts you on the outside so you might just as well be a thief. Wouldn't want to change anyone's idea of what a foreigner should act like

Would you define the thief route as a solo quest? it just seems that taking anyone with you especially a housecarl is going to cramp your style. Housecarls have limited usefulness and followers do get in the way a lot except maybe Jenassa. Aela smells of wet dog

Liked the Thieves Guild Questline.(althou a bit on the genocide side)

Companions questline was to short. ("I don't wanna be a werewolf any more", 2 dungeons,...bam!dead! and you're boss)

Dark Brotherhood...i've realy hated the fact that nobody exept Festus realy obeyed/respected The Night Mother (i mean for peaks sake that lizard was a Shadowscale, by definition they got brainwashed as "children?" to obey Sithis, The Dark Mother, The Black Hand and The Five Tenents -insted he's collecting tax money for asaulting DB members and almost got himself killed by a jester for trying to save that god for nothing Astrid...just pathetic-). I really liked Babette but unfortunately besides the fact that she's 300 and brewing i know nothing of her.

The College of Winterhold...i wanted to kill that Thalmor scum first time i've entered there.(could have finished the whole questline in 10 seconds )

The Bards College...would have erased them from Skyrim if not for Geraud Gemane (Speech training master -who could easly persuade the jarl to hold the burning, wich makes everyone else usless-).
