I love this idea...there are a few mod creators I have wanted to do just that with, it's a way for me to express that I really really really appreciate all their hard work. Without our wonderful pack of modders our game/s wouldn't be half as awesome as they are.

*squee* so very excited for this

Maskar~ I completely agree...selling mods = icky, but donating to the creators if we so desire to = YaY :D

Barretsfloyd~ As far as I see it "donating" is a choice...I'm not sure how that makes Nexus or the mod authors that participate look bad. In regards to what you said about your premium membership, I guess I just see the donating to mod authors and donating to the Nexus as completely separate from each other. The coin I gave for my membership was to the awesome people that run and do whatever it is they do to bring us and let us use this site. The donating to mod authors is...well exactly what SealCubClubber said, "for people who are just fans of authors who go above and beyond to produce fabulous content."

*fans out her money...leans back to relax* ahhhh *stretch* ALRIGHT...I haz some green to throw around...WOot :D

Besides the size of the Donation box pushing everything down I think the implementation you've used is great. The wording is clear and further explanation and caution is given before the Paypal link is used.

I'm sure changes will need to be made as issues dictate and alternate methods arise, but for now it seems to be a great method for Mod authors to announce that they're open to accepting a donation and users to contribute to the Authors whose work they enjoy.

Love the concept! The Mod Authors deserve all the accolades given to them... and voluntarily donating a few Septims to their efforts is only fair.....without them there would be NO Nexus - remember that.

BTW... Does this mean Shawkb will put his Dovakiin Hideout back on the Nexus?? (please Please PLEASE!!!) :-)

Why do I get a sinking feeling regarding the kinds of comments mod authors are going to be getting now..

"I was going to donate to this mod but you'd have to include X feature first"

"I donated to you! The least you could do is update your mod once in a while."

"Mod authors should look after their users. After all, they are getting money from the mods they make."

"I donated to you but I found X bug, now I want my money back"

"I contributed content to this mod, I want a cut of the profits!"

I dunno tbh.. since when did modding become about money? Haven't mod authors done extrodinary work so far without a financial incentive?

Very well set out policy on donations. The very reasonable rules should make donations a "positive" for the community. The "donation button" makes it easy on those of us who may want to donate. As you intimate, without some controls, emphasis on "donations" could damage the modding community.

As always, folks who don't like the rules can opt out of playing the game.

I am an old bloke and I don't have clue on how to mod. So I appreciate all the work moders do to make the game more enjoyable for me. I am on a pension and can't afford a lot of money so I like the way it is at present Donation system. I have made a donation to some modders for their work to show my apprecation. I wish I had the ability to mod and give back to the modding community but that is not going to happen. So the occasional donation to modders makes me feel that I am not being a user.

I am overjoyed to hear that Bethesda will allow the people who by their tinkering make Bethesda games playable to accept donations. How generous of them.

Seriously though this is a great idea so long as it remains purely voluntary. My preference of course would be to fire half the Bethesda designers and replace them with the top modders from this site, but you can't have everything.

You forgot a negation in this sentence:
"The worry is in the further ramifications, like mod authors trying to offer their services, support or files for money in any shape or form and that's something I agree with absolutely."

You forgot a negation in this sentence.

@Kibblesticks - I would think that the mod authors, that are being solicited by their mod users, can only be strong-armed or offered incentive as much as they allow... and I would hope that if the mod users are saying or communicating such things through the Nexus-sites then they would be dealt with as harshly as a mod author would.

If it stay that way im 100% for it!
Mods help me make this game the way I wanted it, and never ceased to surprise me.
If I count the hour playing Skyrim and learning about the CK, and the price I pay for Skyrim...
That not many cents by hour! Damn some game cost me more than 10$ a hour :P
So if I can donate to modder who made Skyrim what is it today, voluntary (that the key) it's perfect!
