I would like to see them avoid going for yet another WoW clone and instead have a look at UO pre-Trammel. A real breathing and deadly world with no boring (daily) quests, or endless instances for some random overpowered items.

I think that such games exist, to some degree anyways, though I think they also tend to fall down on the marketing side of things.

That said, the modern equivalent of this is, I think a game which has those daily quests but only if you really want them. It would also have the PvP settings but again only if you want to buy into that kind of play.

But the real problem, nowadays, is that there are so many free-to-play mmo games out there that finding people that want to play your mmo game can be rough on your marketing folks. And I think you can see this in the attitudes of people posting here.

There are different grades of PvP imo. The fact you can kill someone doesn't mean you should (like real life). In UO for instance you could join guilds and fight eachother. However, killing a random innocent person will turn you into a murderer if not careful, so not something you would do lightly. Just like if you steal from someone you could freely get killed by other players. Anyway, I personally think if it's just going for another WoW clone (collect loot and more loot) it's going to fail. Time will tell though.

They can do whatever they want as long as they don't trash the single-player franchise.

A company that makes single-player RPG's branching out to make a massive multiplayer online game. I am sure that will go over well... **rolls eyes**

BioWare beat Bethesda to it, and look at how less RPG-like their single player games have gotten, I won't even begin to describe my disappointment with Mass Effect 3.

Basically when a company heads in this direction of trying to make it's base larger, it slashes content and spreads its talents thin.

I just hope Bethesda pulls it off.

Hopefully they don't look to World of SpecialOlympicsCraft for ideas and inspiration.

Skyrim was a bit of a letdown in the challenge department at release. But that was easily remedied through modding, and in relatively short order. An mmorpg won't have that luxury. If they make the game stupid easy like WoW (going for the Blizzard style "mass appeal", they'll alienate a huge portion of the ES fanbase they've been building throughout the series (they already risk a lot of those, by virtue of the game being an mmo, which most rpg gamers tend to avoid like the plague). And if it doesn't live up to the WoW standard of "relatively idiot proof", it'll flop and end up on the F2P rack at Gamestop within a year.

If they don't get too ambitious about mass subscriptions and develop within the expectations of a typical ES fan, they could at least acquire and retain a reasonably sized subscriber base of ES fans (assuming content is regularly updated). Which would be an impressive start for any mmo.

As a company maybe, i dont think Zeni would trow such project to a bunch of individuals without experience.

Though with Beth's record for SP games, they'll "streamline" their stuff until they reach a WoW point at which the only difference between their games and a MMO will be the lack of network code lol
