Hello

I reused my old helmet/mask and started with the upper part today. It won't be a 1:1 replica to save time so pls understand that i pick a design that i like. I will try to stay close to the "Last Samurai" design...i'm working on tutorials atm as well and RL stuff so it might take a while, but i will update when i make progress.

It is work like this which restores my faith in the modding community. I am sick of scrolling through pages of bikini "armour" to find the few true works of art in the armour section. f***ing modding section is a "testament to bad taste and raging hormones". Thank you for working on this.

Awesome. About time someone did some cool Samurai armor. And the design from Last Samurai is great looking, so good choice

In the future, could you put your images in spoiler tags? Makes viewing threads much better.

Also, are you planning on creating a new texture or are you going to stick with the photo texture shown here? I know its a pain in the ass to make a new texture from scratch (on that level of complexity) but photo textures look so very bad.

Not sure yet 'bout the texture...I'm not the kind of person that works for weeks on one model like some other WIP here and i really really hate texturing. So first i'll try to get at least a mediocre texture from photos, i would only do it from the scratch if the texture looks complete crap ingame.

Will test it before i judge....i didn't spend much time on the model and UV map so it would be a pain in the a** to texture it - got so many other ideas so i want to finish it as fast as possible

This is my first complete armor so i'll invest more time in the 2nd

I understand, and not to preach but I'm compelled to mention that good modeling habits are just as important as good habits are in any skill. If you force yourself to do things the 'right way' when you are first getting into it, you'll save yourself so much pain later on.

UVW mapping (unwrapping) used to be the one thing I hated more than anything else in the world, but when I started making baked in ambient Occlusion, I had no choice because all surfaces of the model HAD to have their own place on the UV, and most bits had to be the same size (Same number of pixels per inch) for things to turn out right. If you are using 3D Studio Max, the new UV tools they've added are phenomenal and totally worth checking out. Things that you would expect to be a nightmare (like big flowing cloth sleeves I deal with on EVERY Kimono) are actually easy. There is a certain satisfaction in creating a good 'proper' UV, and finishing it off with a good 'proper' texture just tops it all off.

Also, it doesn't have to take weeks to UV and texture. I model, UV, texture, rig and import whole models in a day. Its all about streamlining your workflow and avoiding doing work twice.

Otherwise, I still look forward to your finished work.

I just recently changed the voice over language in my game to Japanese, so I need to change the Imperials' armors to that of Samurai!
