In response to post #4947445.

Hello guys ! Happy New Year !
I'm New and I need some help !

I've already installed my 2 usefull mods (SkyUI and IHUD) and everything works perfect ! I've Also tried other textures mods and it looks OK
But now with the skyrim HD i have some issues !
I'm trying to fix it for hours !

My PC win7 x64 configuration is i5 3570k + 16GO ram + ATI 7970 3Go OC version, and im using the legendary edition of TES on steam.

I've downloaded the 5 FULL parts of the mod to have the best graphics, i've extracted to my data/textures.
ok now i understand the modification of the INI is useless and there is no .esp to have in the launcher(it could be nice to change the installation part for other people no ? i think the SkyrimHD.esp was in old version right ? i've seen something about this on youtube)
but when i look at my game i don't really see the HD part of the mod :/

let see some screenshots i've taken, and u will understand !

i don't see this quality !
you can see i've all my settings in max and i don't big lags.

maybe i must allow more RAM usage ? i've seen in my windows task manager TES game use only 1.3 Go of RAM ? how to allow more ?
I've an another problem with some items flying in NPC'homes, making lot of noise, it's really annoying, could someone help me about all these questions please ?
sorry for my english :D

I usually like to start out with a nice, all-encompassing intro but, because 90% of the people who claim to have read the below guide still say "WTF! Why isn't there any Skyrim HD file in my plug-in list/load-order. This mod is broken!!!!", this is my intro:

THIS MOD DOES NOT SHOW UP IN YOUR PLUG-INS LIST BECAUSE IT HAS NO .ESP OR .ESM FILES. THE ONLY WAY TO KNOW FOR SURE IT IS WORKING IS TO LAUNCH THE GAME AND CHECK. IF YOU STILL CAN'T TELL THEN TAKE SCREENSHOTS OF THE GAME WITH AND WITHOUT SKYRIM HD AND COMPARE THEM SIDE-BY-SIDE. IF YOU STILL CAN'T TELL THEN I AM NOT SURE WHAT TO SAY...

Now the "intro" I would have liked to start with:

These are my instructions and suggestions for installing Skyrim HD, taking into account hardware and other texture mods you may use. I am not an expert, per se, but I have been in the modding scene for some time and done some personal mod work.

Please remember that I whipped this up in short order, as I saw a lot of people with basic issues installing the mod. I have real-life things (like working on a triple-degree) going on too so I cannot write an exhaustive guide that will answer every single specific problem; that isn't what guides are for anyway. I just wanted to get something basic out there. Specific questions/issues need specific answers, and I am more than happy to answer them to the best of my ability via private message.

Skyrim HD Installation Guidelines:

***COMPATIBILITY: This mod is technically compatible with anything. I say technically because you can use it with any other mod, including other texture mods... but you can't use the whole thing with other texture mods because if they change the same textures one will overwrite the other. IT SHOULD ALSO BE COMPATIBLE WITH THE BETHESDA HD DLC AND UNOFFICIAL HD DLC PATCH.***

1) LITE or FULL version of Skyrim HD?

a) You must choose ONE of the two versions of Skyrim HD. Each version has 5 separate packs (Towns, Dungeons, Landscape, Miscellaneous, Riften). You need to make the decision between the LITE and FULL version based on your computers hardware. If you are not sure what I mean by this then you have some homework to do for yourself before you get into using texture mods. If you are just here for better-than-vanilla graphics and minimal hassle, save yourself the trouble of reading the rest of this and use the LITE version. It still looks great!

If you are still reading then here... General rule of thumb: if you bought your PC at Best Buy or a similar retail store it most likely has an integrated graphics chip, or medium-end dedicated card, and will run the LITE version AT BEST (if it is integrated graphics it might not even run LITE). If you didn't buy your PC at a retail store then you probably bought it off somebody or bought it custom, in which case you should know your stuff.

While graphics cards are the most important hardware for performance and using texture mods like Skyrim HD, they are not the only important hardware. With that said, there is a rule that you should have more than 1GB of VRAM on with your graphics card to run the FULL version but this is a GENERAL rule, not a guarantee. Computers work as a unit and if, for the sake of example, you have a high-end graphics card matched with minimal RAM and a weak processor then you still have what is called a system bottle-neck. I am not going to get any more specific on hardware because my recommendation is to try both LITE and FULL if you are not sure. Download FRAPS and HWMonitor to monitor your frame-rate and hardware temperatures. Then try both versions and see how they handle. A perfect frame-rate for the average screen /monitor (60Hz refresh rate) is 60 frame-rate of 60. It is hard to say what temperature maximums to expect because they vary from Desktop to Laptop and even more depending on your hardware but a GENERAL rule is that hardware temperature past 85C is not too good; desktops rarely get that hot (or shouldn't) but laptops can. Keep an eye out!

2) So hopefully you have decided whether you will use LITE or FULL now... so let's get to what each of the 5 packs include. It should be pretty self-explanatory though so this is not an exhaustive list of the literal names of each texture they redo:

a) Towns: Re-textures the exterior of all cities EXCEPT Riften, plus some farmhouses and small towns around Skryim.

b) Miscellaneous: Re-texture for reflections, water, sky, sun, clutter (including some household interior items such as tables, cabinets, etc.) and clothes.

c) Dungeons: Re-textures all dungeon textures (including dwemer ruins) so this only re-textures interiors as dungeons are all interiors.

d) Landscape: Re-texture of basically all exterior textures not already mentioned, including; snow, dirt, roads (snow roads too), dirt paths, grasses, trees, pine forest textures, riverbed textures, rock and rock slab textures, and a whole lot more. Matching LOD's are also redone.

e) Riften: Adds Riften re-texture so it looks as good as the other cities/towns.
With that you should be able to decide which packs your want. I strongly recommend using them all because even if there is another texture mod you think does a particular texture better, you can always overwrite Skyrim HD's texture with your favorite mod later.

3) Let's move on to installing. I manually install some of my mods and I use Nexus Mod Manager for others. I strongly recommend just using NMM. I have never had issue with it installing texture mods (not once) and it makes the process of selectively installing textures much more simple. I will not to instructions for installing with anything other than NMM so if you use Wrye Bash, I am sorry.

a) First and foremost, you don't have to actually remove the Official HD DLC's. You may, however, uncheck them from your load-order because they are not necessary if using a full texture overhaul such as Skyrim HD (for vanilla textures). I actually leave mine checked because I have not been able to replicate any of the issues users have been claiming to have with Skyrim HD and the HD DLC or HD DLC patch but, again, if you use Skyrim HD you have little need for the Official HD DLC (as far as vanilla textures are concerned) so I recommend just unchecking them if all you are worried about is vanilla. If you have Dawnguard or Dragonborn, however, you may wish to leave the HD DLC checked OR use Serious HD Re-texture mod for Dawnguard and Dragonborn because Skyrim HD does not have textures for DLC.

b) Before installing Skyrim HD I recommend uninstalling all your other smaller texture mods. The reason I recommend this is because it is wise to install large texture overhauls first so that you can install smaller texture mods (e.g. WATER, Vurt's SFO, etc.) over top of Skyrim HD and make overwrites afterward. If you have Dawnguard or Dragonborn and want to use Serious HD Re-texture for the DLC textures then you should install that before you install Skyrim HD because that way you can install Skyrim HD over Serious HD (which will only overwrite the vanilla textures because that is all Skyrim HD re-textures).

c) After all your small texture mods are uninstalled (if you have any) and you have downloaded the LITE or FULL version of your chosen Skryim HD packs, select and install one of them (doesn't really matter which). After that has been installed, go to install the next one and you will get a message asking you to “upgrade”. The reason you get this message is because NMM thinks that it is the exact same mod and it wants to know if this is a newer version to upgrade. YOU MUST CLICK “NO”!!! If you do not click “NO” it will replace the pack that you just installed beforehand. Repeat this process of installing and selecting “NO” to the “upgrade” prompt. During this process you should not be asked to overwrite any files unless you have other texture mods still installed (which I recommended uninstalling). Skyrim HD is a texture mod WITHOUT .esp or bsa files so you will not see anything in your load-order like a usual mod so don't be looking for that in your load-order to verify the install. You have to verify the install by running the game and seeing if the textures are, indeed, there.

d) Now you can install smaller mods over the textures from Skyrim HD. To do this all you do is install a given texture mod, for example W.A.T.E.R, and select which textures you want to overwrite. Generally if you like the way the texture mod looks all-in-all then you want to select “Yes to all” when overwriting but if you want to replace only certain textures you will need to know which texture names correspond to what texture you are looking to replace. Note that Skyrim HD is a fabulous looking general overhaul and I, as a very meticulous texture guy, have found very few texture mods that I fully overwrite Skyrim HD's relevant textures with. There are some mods that I selectively overwrite certain textures with but that requires you to know specifically what textures go by what names (e.g. “pineforest03.dds” or “road01.dds” and 100's more) which is beyond the purview of this guide. If you want help with that then you better PM me.

SKYRIM HD USERS, PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

- If you have a question or comment please choose the "reply" option at the bottom of the post so that the guide, itself, will remain at the top (well second-to-the-top now). Otherwise, it will got buried AGAIN. Thank you!

- It is POSSIBLE, but not confirmed, that the guide may not apply to Skyrim Legendary Edition users because the LE may have different filepaths that the Skyrim HD Nexus Mod Manager packs were not scripted to install in. I cannot confirm this because I do not have LE. Sorry. This may not be the case, so try it out anyway...

Hmm, this was my first mod too and the only one, I can confirm that it works. I used NMM and it created and installed all the textures. Though it seems in some places it doesn't work or maybe the textures are not as dramatic. I am using Steam Legendary edition. If this is the only mod you are using and you are only running 1080p you get the effect of not seeing. You have to remember these textures were created for monitors that can support 1200p. I saved outside and could clearly see more detail before and after. The Data folder is their mod and DLC folder and it reads the textures automatically which is kind of cool.

Anyway if someone googles this and hits this topic, I suggest to save in one area like outside look at the rocks and the trees, quicksave run NMM apply the mods (by saying NO when prompts) and load the game right away. Not a dramatic pop in the eye but a good start.

In response to post #11127564. #11857680 is also a reply to the same post.

Trying and trying to find an answer to help me. Comments are usless, just filled with other people having issues, i've given up i'm sure the mod would be great if there wasn't approx 5 different sets of installation instructions all saying different things
Good luck to others to getting this janky mod to work
p.s Using the modmanager doesn't work, it won't start downloading.
