steve40
@rforbes786: locate your Skyrim.ini and SkyrimPrefs.ini in the Skyrim folder under My Games in your My Documents folder (I think), then delete these two ini files (make a backup copy in a separate folder first, just in case). Then restart Skyrim, it will ask you to choose some graphics options again, then it will automatically create fresh ini files. This fixes a lot of crashes that happen just after the logo appears. Edit: After the new ini files are created, don't forget to edit SkyrimPrefs.ini and add "bEnableFileSelection=1" (without quotes) under the [Launcher] section, otherwise you won't be able to access the Data option in Skyrim Launcher. steve40
I believe that this is my problem. I have no idea how those files could have gotten deleted, but they don't appear to be on my computer. Can you please give me some tips on where to find the replacements? I didn't get my game through steam, so I can't just flash the files.. you  Go to the shops and buy a legit copy of the game

steve40
sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM v1.1)" Uh, and if they have a different graphics card than yours...? :wallbash:Better to delete the ini files and let the launcher create new ones, as I described in an earlier post. YurikoYamaki
I also have this problem. What happened to me is that I never could get past the Bethesta logo. At first, I had Steam and Nexus manager installed before Skyrim and when I had Skyrim, I allready had a bunch of mods installed. I tried opening Skyrim and it didn't work. So, I thought the problem was that I have too many mods, so I uninstalled a few major ones. Tried Skyrim again, but it still didn't work. So I uninstalled all the mods (without actually deleting them) and tried the game again, but still got no results. I tried re-installing Skyrim completely (no use). I Deleted everything that had anything to do with Skyrim from my computer, installed Skyrim (nothing else, but Skyrim) again and it still didn't work... Help? bben46
Don't install ANY!!! mods until after you get the game working. Then, wait until after you have completed the tutorial (Helgen) as the cut scenes don't get along with some mods. They cause the scenes to stop, they cause the wagon to wreck, they cause certain things to not happen so you cannot proceed. Most mods will work, but why take the chance - the real game does not start until you exit the cave. More helpHere is a link to my troubleshooting blog. http://s1.zetaboards.com/bbenlibrary/topic/4751769/1/#newThis is updated often so come back later for more. If you use any of this and have some success - or even if nothing works - please post back here what you did that worked or didn't work. That kind of information can be invaluable to other members having the same or similar problems - And to me in fixing any problems in the blog. Werdnaegni
This just happened to me, then I realized I had a hearthfire mod checked in wyre bash. Don't know how it got checked, but yeah...unchecked it and it worked fine. I know this thread is old but I figured somebody might have the problem one day and this might help. Marksman1011
I had this problem and just now fixed it. I use Nexus Mod Manager. While going down the list of "Plugins" (installed mods), I found that some of my ".esp" files required master ".esm" files that I did not have. After disabling the ".esp" files referencing these missing mods, the game worked. I then then downloaded and installed the master ".esm" mods, enabled the slave ".esp" mods, and it still works. It seems the problem, at least for me, had to do with loading slave ".esp" files without having the master ".esm" files. If that is indeed the problem, simply download the referenced "master" mods, and that should fix it. Hope this helps.
Sinuo13
i just had a similar problem and it was solved by going into the plugins tab on NMM, then searching through the most recently installed mods' master .esm files. in my case, i had accidentally downloaded a patch for the "realistic night" mod for another mod i did not have. this means that this mods .esp files were slaves to a master .esm file that didnt exist. all you need to do is uncheck the box next to the offending plugins. hope this works for you!
