Like DAJB said..For AMD users if you installed the last Driver update 12.3..Roll them back to 12.2...That was the cause for me not being able to launch skyrim!!..Not the patch from Bethesda!..Hope this helps someone. ....(EDIT)...Just found out it's not the 12.3 drivers it's the CAP1 that is causing the issues with Skyrim not launching!!!

If people are still having problems with CTDs then I've found another solution, >remove<:

[Papyrus]
iMinMemoryPageSize=100000
iMaxMemoryPageSize=5000000
iMaxAllocatedMemoryBytes=1800000000

from your Skyrim.ini in your Documents > My Games

Hi all, long reader first time poster - hope all's well :)

R.e. Nuvendile's comment about updating Nvidia drivers, this is especially true for those with a Fujitsu laptop (I use an NH570 myself). Fujitsu's last update for the GForce 330m was back in 2010, and prior to following the advice I read on here today I had several problems with shadows using a vanilla install of the 1.5.26 patch. Thankfully all those issues have (touch wood) gone post-driver update! Much obliged Nuvendile for pointing me in the right direction ;)

Now I'm just waiting for STEP be released and it's back into the fun!

Heh... All of you guys are doing better than me with this 1.5.26 update.

The first time Steam went to update it on my system, it got so far as to delete some game files, such as Tesv.exe, then stopped dead in its tracks. I ended up having to copy over a Mar 28th backup of 1.5.24. As of Apr 1st, after the backup re-copy, Steam isn't attempting to install update 1.5.26, so I'm still stuck with 1.5.24.

@Virrey
Blindly updating when I know it could cause conflicts with some of my mods and before things I consider essential like Script Dragon was updated wouldn't be very bright of me now would it?

Well, I think he was really addressing those who are saying Bethesda's patch is loaded with bugs. Which isn't true. Most is out of date something, whether mods or drivers. Still, he was a little rude.

Most of these comments are exactly the reason I haven't updated my game in since 1.3.10.0 - It feels very stable, (on my pc) so why would I need to fix it? Some of the things included in later patches look cool, but I will not take the chance of not being able to play at all. :ohdear: I run steam in offline mode.

@ZombieInfected

I was the same as you but with 1.4.21, I found that there were things I needed that were no longer compatible and then we had the navmesh crashes which made me wonder, but now everything I needed to be updated has been (NMM, BOSS, Script Dragon, incompatible mods) I decided Yesterday was time to reconnect Steam and go for it.
I updated all the mods that needed to be, which surprising was only a few and most of those were down to new versions of SKSE and the game fired up without a glitch and has been running flawlessly for over 8 hours now even though I use well over 100 plugins.

So if I can successfully update there is no reason anyone can't

If you are unsure then back up your game directory, NMM 'mods' & 'Install Info' folders and the 'Skyrim' folder in My Documents/My Games then if all goes wrong you can just put everything back as it was.

Ok.. I just ran into another 'thing'. Just wondering if anyone else has. I started a new game and the point when you go into the tower ... the big bad mean dragon isn't breaking through the wall and breathing fire. I see a quest arrow there but it's been 20 minutes and he hasn't broke the wall yet. I can't jump into the inn. Just curious if anyone else had this.
