After several months without being able to log in because of the "Cannot connect to the Nexus Server. Unable to connect to the remote server."-problem I accidentally stumbled upon a solution while working on something else. Try this:

1. Go to Control Panel.
2. Search for Internet Options. Click this.
3. Click the Connections tab.
4. Click on LAN settings.
5. Uncheck all boxes.
6. Done!

It worked for me! I hope it works for you as well.

 An interesting solution - but if it works...

What settings were originally checked? Maybe we can narrow it down to a particular setting that for some reason blocks people.

Doesn't work for me either. They were all already unchecked. It's not being blocked by my firewall either.

NMM just works for millions of users - so just what are you doing different from everyone else? Seriously we do want to know this kind of stuff so we know what to fix.

Most common cause of NMM problems is an overzealous firewall or antivirus. Trend Micro is notorious for not playing nice with NMM. There is an entire topic on that in the forums.

be sure you are logged into windows as a administrator

be sure you have NMM running with admin privileges ( NOT the same thing as being logged in as an admin)

Be sure that Windows UAC isn't blocking you ( it won't bother to tell you if it is)

Make sure your firewall is not blocking you

Make sure your antivirus is not blocking you

Have you tried using a different browser?

Are you using any download accelerator or download manager?

Are you running any browser add ons that block anything - ads, scripts, cookies - anything.

I get this error randomly, usually coinciding with the website saying that its down for maintenance. It just lets me connect a few minutes later.
