Ever since I bought Skyrim for the PC so I could make use of mods, I've been plagued by random powerdowns during gameplay. Everything's going fine, running at 60 FPS speeds, and then BAM! The computer turns off without warning.

Wow, what a letdown... And my computer has never done this before.

I've seen other topics where people have had this problem, and oftentimes people have pointed to the power supply of the computers being under strength for the job. I had a look at mine, and it said it was a 585W PSU. (Sorry, but I don't know how to determine the make or voltage of the power box by looking at it. Any help here would also be appreciated.)

Here's information on my computer's other hardware. Forgive me if this is not enough information. I'm no computer whiz, so I don't know about everything that'd be needed to give a good analysis. I only copied what I thought would be relevant after using Belarc Advisor.

3.07 gigahertz Intel Core i3 540
BIOSTAR Group H55 HD
ST3500418AS Hard drive (500 gigs)
ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series

how much memory do you have ?

What is your OS ?

Are you patched to the latest ?

By rating, you mean voltage? I said I'm not sure.

All I see on the back of my computer for it is a red part where the PSU should be saying 115V. Dunno if that's what you mean.

If you mean in watts, I said it was 585W.

What is the message you got when the computer started up again? If it shut down due to thermal reasons it probably overheated. Check to make sure your fan(s) are working and use a program to monitor what your temperatures hover around while playing games.

No message at all. And my computer doesn't have heat issues.

Core temps were hovering around mid 20C while gaming. That should not be problematic.

The power supply should be enough, and mid 20*C is cool so I am not sure what else it could be. Does the area you live in have blackouts ever?

f***... now my computer won't even start up.

Been getting a SMART message that told me to replace my hard drive, but for 6 months nothing bad happened.

Probably the computer biting me and saying "I'm screwing you over now!"

Your harddrive most likely crashed, if you get a smart message to replace your drive you should check it. That is the whole purpose of the warning.

Mechanical components breakdown sometimes it just happens.

Just replace the harddrive or get your system checked out where you bought it.

Harddrives have 3-5years warranty.
