Skyrim was running fine for me for many days; I have lots of mods and am using Nexus Mod Manager and BOSS, as well as SKSE.

Now it will crash (CTD) a few minutes into play, and it's always when I'm looting a corpse or container. I've updated all my mods that seem related, and am at a loss on how to proceed. I've tried using just BOSS and also manually tweaking my load order to no avail.

Any ideas? Here's my mod list, currently:

What's your rig like?

I'm running a Phenom X4 9850BE, at 2.5GHz, with 6GB of RAM and a 1GB GTS250 video card. My graphics settings are pretty low still, as I just upgraded my CPU from an Athlon X2 @ 2.4GHz and haven't changed any graphics quality settings.

My CPU is at 54° when Skyrim CTDs, and my GPU is always less than 55° during these crashes as well. Running the Athlon X2, my GPU would heat up to 81° and crash Skyrim, but heat isn't the case with the newer CPU involved.

I have disabled all my companion-related mods and dismissed them all to try and narrow it down. I also reverted to Categorized Favorites 1.1_1, as I'm still using SKSE 1.48 evidently. SkyUI 2.2, and no warnings inside of Skyrim suggesting that SkyUI and SKSE aren't behaving together.

Rolling solo, Skyrim stays up much longer, but still CTDs and it's always when I'm playing with inventory panels looting corpses and containers...

You might have removed a mod, and have items in loot-boxes or corpses that are leftover and cause the game to crash? It seems like a long shot though.

That may be it but believe me, it took me ages to figure this out, I have extensive experience regarding CTD and AppHangb1
Okay, here we go!
Firstly, your pluggins.
For you rig, you are running waaaay too many pluggins and in addition to that, a large number are graphical alters. A big no no unless your hooked up to a gaming pc. What happens is that each pluggin is loaded into the RAM and then, depending on your setup, your VM will process the information. Initially, the VM will be dealing with roughly 10 BSA files and 2 ESM files, the vanilla files. These are extremely safe as they are DESIGNED to be intergrated seamlessly into the game. Mods however are an entirelly different story. Take for example, Static Improvement (A big bad one, its changes 1000's of TEXTURES! massive resource hogger!), it alters meshes and textures, that alone on some pc's may use up all of the computers resource, on a lower end pc. 1g dedicated is good, but to run ALL of those Graphic mods, you'd be looking at needing 4-5gb, depending on your actual VIs settings.

Secondly, Your actual pc.
It took me ages to learn this but, a pc always has limits. That means you may be ultimately limitied to the amount of modds you can safetly install. Yes, that means you have to remove some. Start by removing the ones that you don't particularally like and don't really need or have little or none impact in game. Additionally, some mdos may perform precisely the same task as others, therfore, you are able to make easy descions. Second, remove the mods that are buggy in game, may have incorrect names, but meshes etc. On a programming level, CTD is caused by really bad scripting errors messing with the VM! Removing those may help free resources and stop CTD and lag/stuttering.

Also, there are some really great skyrim.ini papyrus edits you can perform that can boost both performance AND stability, try these out, they may helpp.

If you need more information regarding these edits, I am available to quickly jot down how to perform them, untill then, I hope this short guide has helped!

Good stuff to know! I'm pretty aware of graphical limits, being a Maya modeler/texturer/renderer by trade. I must beg to disagree except for the part regarding the texture memory size. 1GB is enough for my mods, however only just. There's a lot of swapping going on, fortunately the 9850BE CPU can handle it very well.

I solved my problem outright by launching Skyrim regularly instead of with SKSE_loader. Been playing for hours now with no CTDs, finally!

So something's wrong with my SKSE installation/version, but since everything is now working flawlessly I'm not really worried about it for now.

100 mods is not too many to run on this computer, my friend... Just gotta know your mods and when necessary, rework your textures down to 1024x1024 if things get hairball!

True, i had the mod problem because I was running mods that were looping regually and they were absolutely killing the VM! do any of you mods require SKSE?

Hmm, so its possibly SKSE that's causing this?

I had about 250+ plugins going with no CTD from looting, or any problems really. It just kinda started happening all of a sudden. I thought it was a mod conflict, so I uninstalled the mods I had downloaded recently, as the CTD started happening only a couple days ago. Still crashed when I looted chests/bodies though. So I uninstalled all my mods, did a clean install of skyrim (stupidly I forgot to check if the CTD problem was still there in vanilla, but I doubt it) and then re-installed a cut down version of my list of mods (144 plugins now).

Okay, I tried running it without SKSE, and it took longer, but I still eventually CTD'd when looting. I'm just not sure what the cause of this is. I have no idea what's going on.
