Well I'll be damned, I've isolated it. Your hunch was right ogerboss, it's an ini problem. It's not skyrim.ini though, but skyrimprefs.ini. Something in there is doing it, presumably one of the STEP ini adjustments. They are as follows:
[Display]
iMaxAnisotropy = 0 ;Anisotropic Filtering - set this to zero, as it should be controlled via the graphics driver.
iMultiSample = 4 ;Antialiasing - keep the value set by the Skyrim Launcher for now
iPresentInterval = 0 ;disable vsync! - vsync should be handled in enblocal.ini (see ENBoost mod instructions)
bTreesReceiveShadows=1 ;Enables shadows rendering on trees (insignificant performance impact)
bDrawLandShadows=1 ;Enables shadows rendering on land (insignificant performance impact)
bFloatPointRenderTarget=1 ;ENB users ONLY!
[Controls]
bMouseAcceleration=0 ;Disable mouse acceleration
Will try each one and see if one fixes it.

Aha! Culprit identified!
"iTexMipMapSkip"
It was set to 1 and when it's set to zero the texture works. The strange thing is that STEP doesn't change this and I have never heard of it. No idea why it was different.

I've added your fix to the known issues and workarounds for 1.8

Not a problem, glad to help. I know the frustration of searching for a problem nobody knows how to fix. I had to sort it or it would have bothered me the whole time playing Requiem. On the note of which, thank *you* for 1.8. It is truly fantastic.
Unfortunately, while still playing around with it before starting a full play, the Ebony Warrior showed up with no head. XD
Oh the joys of building a stable set up...
Can't be Requiem though, it doesn't touch Dragonborn.
Wish me luck.

Okay so.. I really need help.
I've installed this mod and it ran just fine for a few hours.
Then suddenly I had to leave. So I saved my game and closed it.
When I came back, I came to find out that this notice keeps popping up saying to "Start a new game."
..I'm utterly confused because I did what it said and during the character creation menu, it still says that I have to start a new game.
Keep in mind that I'm using the 'Alternate Life' mod too and everything is set in the correct order. The mod works fine, etc but this one little message keeps me from enjoying your incredibly awesome mod.
Did I do something wrong? I've un-installed, deleted all the files, then re-installed and did the SkyProc patch again. But it keeps saying the same thing.
I really don't feel like playing skyrim with the vanilla version and this is a really big let down to me.
If someone could help, that would be greatly appreciated.
Also: Something about the character body not being the same? Comes with the notice about my carry weight being 100 and not 300. I have no clue why this pops up..

Same exact problem here. Except I can't run for a few hours even really. Just have to zone then go a certain distance to trigger Requiem initializing. I've checked through all of my mods and uninstalled all races and the race compatibility. I haven't re-run the patcher though, so I'll try that and if it works, come back and let you know.
The main issue for me is that it says it will go back to the menu and we should be able to reload the game. Instead, it goes to the menu for a second, then pops into the character creation screen, whereupon we need to remake the character, launch a completely new game and then have it pop up with the same exact results causing a never ending loop of reboot, remake, relaunch, reboot.... =(

Yea.
But for me, I can't even move.
Right when the screen loads, it automatically pops up the text box before exiting to the main menu.
Even happens when I try to play on my level 76 character. (Yea. I know Requiem isn't compatible with it. Just did it to test it.)
So really; I have no choice but to un-install the mod entirely. Because with it, I can't even play the game normally.

Unrelated to requiem bugs, but I fixed the issue. Wasn't the Warrior himself, but an ebony helmet mesh conflict between two other mods that had somehow shifted order amongst all this playing about. Off to hit Helgen now, finally a proper game on 1.8. ^^

oO Did you ever see the message about Requiem now starting its scripts? This should normally happen very early, i.e. after leaving the LAL prison cell.
The new game check is only executed as long as Requiem is not installed in the current savegame and checks whether you passed more than a half day has passed. If both conditions are true, you will see the message about the new game and then be thrown back to the menu. Please note that mods randomizing the starting date, like the feature from Wet & Cold Holidays, will trigger a false positive here.
About the other warning: Well, I think the message is quite clear and it does not say anything about a "character body". It only states that you have either a mod conflict on a Vanilla race or a custom race installed which is not Requiem-adapted. Conflicts on the Vanilla races are quite severe, because some essential game mechanics are encoded at the race level. (And before you claim that you for sure have no such mods: Many seemingly harmless visual overhauls, like e.g. Ethereal Elven Overhaul, have to modify the races and thus overwrite Requiem's changes.) And a custom-race not adjusted for Requiem is also imbalanced and has issues with the core game mechanics as well...
That's why this warning is there, so grab Tes5Edit and resolve your issues, once you figured out why the new game error triggers.
