In response to post #11143478.

Hi there,
in case you haven't figured it out by yourself by now, here are some hints how to survive through early/midgame without too much trouble:
1) Speed is everything. When creating a new character and levelling up invest as many points as possible into intelligence and then into pathfinding (depends on your characters intteligence.) So try to be faster than your enemies.
2) Avoid tougher enemies at all cost. In the beginning avoid the Jatu, Knights of Eventide and Knights of the Dawn, the Noldor, Adventuring Companies and Renegade Knights and perhaps Vanskerry Raiders as well. Restrict yourself to roaming around Ravenstern and Senderfall, Windholm and Jarviksholm, Avendor, Sarleon and Marleons, Janos and Ethos in the beginning and try to fight only bandits, outlaws and other lowlevel scum until you can afford some decent troops. Don't hire as many troops as your troop limit allows unless they're good troops,
3) Make some money. Buying iron at Senderfall and selling it at Ravenstern, Rane, or Windholm usually gives a nice Profit, as does buying fish at Windolm and selling it at Jarviksholm or buying flax at Jarviksholm and selling it Avendor. Also these are relatively safe trade routes.
4) Get some crack troops as soon as you can afford them. A core of Barclay Sappers/footmen plus some Melitine lancers will do. Ravenstern Highlanders are also excellent but perhaps too expensive early on. Mercenary or Empire (armored) crossbowmen are also a good choice.
5) If you run into some crack enemies like the bothersome Knights of the Dawn/Eventide or Jatu, don't rush your troops into battle, fight a defensive battle. I usually form up my infantry on a hill, preferably a steep one, heavy foot first in close order, archers ten or twenty paces behind, cavalry on the flanks. The Ai usually charges into the infantry headon, being slowed down by the uphill charge they get a beating from the archers first, than get stuck in the melee with the footmen and can be finished of by a cavalry charge in the flank or rear. You may still loose this, if you have too many lowlevel troops, so if in doubt leave some troops behind and run. Hope this helps.

Just a small post to say I loved this mod, will now try the new version. I liked it better than native, and by far the best mod I've played, great job guys ! Thank you for all the time you spent on this.

While I enjoy this mod, I must say it is too difficult. I'm all for a challenge and all but but there has to be balance. This mod at it's current state is terribly unbalanced, and has a ridiculous gap in strength between troop tiers. Not to mention it has an air of unrealistic difficulty, there is no way you should do zero damage to a guy in chain mail, or even plate for that matter charging full speed on your horse. No armor is that good! Still i enjoy the gameplay mechanics far more than the native endorsed. Just please tweak it..

this is a standalone kind of mod, isn't it? i mean you just have to copy it and install it in the Warband 1.53 directory... you don't need to have previous versions of the mod installed, do you? thanks in advance!

Wow, so many people protesting the difficulty around here, I feel compelled to give my take on what is, in my humble opinion, the best single player mod there is for warband.

Pop is hard, at it's core, but it's way much more than that. It is an increadibly rich mod, lots of items and units, lot of interplay between those, lost of event-like band appearing on the map. All of this makes your (yes slow) progression awesomly rewarding, gosh, the feeling when you take down your first Jatu army is great, even though you spent maybe 300 game days running in fear from their warbands. Pop has unique quests, like becoming a knight, even building your own knighthood order!

It is hard to get on your feet first, last time I played Pop, I knew I had to start chasing bandits in the north to get a chance at levelling. But as you grow in strengt and money flow, the experience just keeps being great while evolving. Pop is the mod where I feel becoming a lord and a king is a real part of the game, with choices, developpement and challenges.

I did tweak some values thought, like getting more gold for your victories on the field and adding top-tier troop to the Pendor culture, a question of taste and laziness as well maybe.

And I did never finish the game, as with any mod and warband itself, the late stage does become a bit repetitive. But I never brought half the map under my kingdom, except in Pop.

I'm looking forward for bannerlord, but as a word of encouragement to Pop developpers, you can count on me to visit Pop page from time to time, in case you decide to polish or expand what is, in my opinion, a jewel of a mod.

After playing 1257AD i found most mods, even the popular ones, very dissapointing and left warband for a few months till i found this mod. Yes, its difficult and can be very frustrating at first but when you get the feeling and things start to work right it becomes rewarding and addictive. My only complaint is how difficult is to train and equip your custom order, it takes an eternity and a shtload of money to get elite. Anyway its a great mod, most fun i have playing warband was with this and 1257 AD.
