Alright. Downloaded Dawnguard and tried to pop it open in the CK, and I get a warning on missing string files.

The exact error message I get is....

Assert: File C:\_Skyrim\Code\TESV\TES Shared\misc\BSGLocalizedString,cpp
Line 1566
LOCALIZATION: Error opening or reading strings file.

And then....

MASTERFILE:LOCALIZATION: Zero entries or empty block size read from strings file STRINGS/Dawnguard_ENGLISH.STRINGS. Strings will be missing.
(Note, I believe this is just an issue of the string files being located within a BSA, and is not what's causing the crash)

First off, why is it looking in a random C:\ folder? Anyone else who's downloaded DG have a similar problem?

SOLUTION (courtesy of B1oodx)

Open up skyrimeditors.ini in your Skyrim directory
Find sResourceArchiveList2
Add Dawnguard.bsa to that list.

No problem hehe :P This poses a problem because I wanted to check out Serana's dialog and script as a follower. Annoying Bethesda...

Also bear in mind this annoyance has no apparent effect on actual gameplay, just viewing the files.

There's a thread regarding this over on the Official forums. It's being suggested that extracting the strings folder from the Dawnguard BSA and merging it with Skyim's strings folder works. Haven't tried it myself, as the DLC is still downloading (slowly).

I wonder if it's a Creation Kit version issue like the fiasco of last time.

Edit - ^ Thanks. Forgot my account info over there or I'd have tried there first.

Adding Dawnguard.bsa to skyrimeditors.ini's sResourceArchiveList2 worked for me:D

Is this extracting the strings folder only needed if your a modder using creation kit?

Your solution wins Bloodx, I will update my first post. Thanks - good call.

And yes Sinnerman, only if you want to view the Dawnguard ESM in the Creation Kit. Loads in game fine.
