Provide the proof please. I do not have that other game nor have I ever played it so it is impossible for me to verify if this is a rip or a model made to look like something from that game.

EDIT: I see the proof that you attached. I have attached these images to the mod page and I have placed the file as Hidden until I hear back from the author. If I do not hear anything from the author in a certain amount of time, the file will be deleted.

FYI - I have had a case open with NCSoft for some time now about how we as moderators can go about verifying suspected models / textures as being rips from Lineage 2. I went on to ask (basically for all the other modders) if this was even an issue and somewhat OK if the models are being used as addons for other games like Oblivion and no revenue is being generated from it (e.g. not selling the ripped models / textures). The case was forwarded to a manager and I have not seen any updates yet but will hold off on deleting any Lineage 2 uploads until I get an official answer from NCSoft. Who knows, maybe they will allow such rips...not likely, but at least I tried and asked for permission.

Also, please do not report any mods as being "rips" unless proof is provided with it. We will not take any action unless there is proof and we simply do not have those other games to do any verifications ourself.

Therefore, I am going through the list of mods that have been proven to contain rips and will be removing them from this site shortly.

For those mods that were accused but no solid proof as to the mesh / texture comparisons, I will be re-instating them due to a lack of proof against them.

These rips are really making me mad sometimes, Can't people see how many files have been taken down due to rips? Well, okay I admit most of the people who rips off from games probably doesn't speak english so that might explain some.

Well, we do not have any "official" listing of mods that were removed due to being illegal. I do not think it is necessary. It is fairly common knowledge in the modding world that ripping models from one game and putting them in another is a no-no if you are planning to re-distribute them. Nobody cares if you do this for yourself but it is the DISTRIBUTION of these ripped models / textures that is the problem (such as uploading them here...which we do not allow)

@ Bahamut0, I visited the Russian forum where progress of the armor was being posted. It looked like it was built using screenshots of the armor as a background image so the dimensions should be VERY similar but the actual verts will be quite different if created by hand as the author claims and I have seen no evidence to contradict what was said.

Our policy (well, with me anyway) from this point forward is that we will not accept accusations unless backed up with proof. In-game screenshot comparisons are not proof enough as an artist is quite capable of replicating items in great detail. A vertex and texture comparison would need to be shown to see exact placement of geometry which is the actual fingerprint of evidence. Anything less than that level of proof will be seen as slander / flaming if posted publicly rather than via PM or the REPORT button...which at that point, it would simply be deleted / ignored without sufficient evidence.

Meshes are good, they are authors own work, but the textures are 100% rips, they even contain dark elf skin, anyway let the screen speak for me

My thoughts on this:

Gutted about Kylin Divine Beast, that was a high quality mod, and very well done.

I understand we have copyright issues and have to respect companies and that the moderators have a job to do.

But actively searching for ways to take down popular mods just seems pointless, especially on a site you use yourself to download said mods.

Again, im not saying that we should allow blatant copyright infringement or support it, but actively looking to remove quality mods that dont have any impact on the original publishers work/profit/reputation just seems like a waste of our own time, and the modders.


Ive never played Lineage II or ever seen it, so I cant comment on the validity of the mods/claims. But I cant imagine someone who wants to play Lineage II would think "I know, since i dont want to pay for this game, Ill buy Oblivion, download an armour mod for it that looks like one from Lineage, then ill be playing Lineage for free!"

Come on.. seriously.

Ripping Morrowind into Oblivion, fair enough, great reason not to buy it. This shouldnt be allowed for obvious reasons. But come on....
