Dawnguard Vampire Attacks = Game Killer?

I remember doing that "Mark of Dibella" quest in Riften, a group of vampires attacked.. My targets died before i had chance to take the marks off them.
Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of vampire attacks.. But at least make them weak enough so they can't actually kill anybody?

.... then what would be the point of them?Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of vampire attacks.. But at least make them weak enough so they can't actually kill anybody?
Also, you are aware that beating Dawnguard causes them to stop?

I am well aware of it, yes. I am one of those who don't focus entirely on an expansion. I'll do a couple of quests, then get side tracked somewhere else. (keeps the game alive for me)
My point is - They would still be a nuisance. But its more inconveniencing that they kill your quest targets. A few weak vampire skirmishes are considerably less game breaking than strong vampires which kill all your quest NPCs.
Edit: You could argue this with the Dragon attacks. Which yes.. It is possible for dragons to kill NPCs. But I think their focus is on the respawning NPC's such as guards. After the guards, it would target the player.

... The attacks really shouldnt start to happen until you start the questline.
Couldn't agree more. I don't see any harm to the DG story if the vampire menace started sometime after the start of the player's game, so I'm not sure why Bethesda took the route they did. Personally, I think that was a bad decision.
I've been thinking of starting a new game, but I'd rather not deal with vampire attacks right away. Luckily, playing on the king of the platforms (PC of course) allows me to disable the DG esm in NMM and roll back any mods that were updated to require it.

It IS annoying though, I am working on a mod and was testing a new location that is near Riverwood. The toon in question decided to visit Riverwood one more time before heading off to see the Greybeards. The Vampires were attacking in broad daylight and managed to off both Faendal and Sven. At least that leaves Camilla Valerius free to find herself a more likely lad I suppose. I am going to have to pull out a list of NPC ids from somewhere and make me another essentials bat file.
Yikes, there goes another trainer. I started dawnguard at level 81 so didn't care too much, but I can really see how losing merchants and trainers can be a pain in the ....
The bat file thing sounds like a cool workaround, and there's also this mod that makes NPCs essential. It installs separate ESPs for the various classes so players can pick and choose which ones they want active.

Reading all these reports, I have been too nervous to start a new game...having a level 1 Dovahkin again....as I don't want to loose quests/trainers/merchants....Thank you for the link kievkiev....I will definitely be using that that when I start that new game.
