How do you find an OMOD in CS??

No, once you hit 250 the game CTDs, then I have to take some out to get back to 250 and all is well again. :D

Now this is something I can't reply for sure since I never got near this 253 limit. For my "understanding" the engine would just stop seeking the load list, if the not loaded mod (worse if it have several esps/esms) was necessary so CTDs happens. Anyway I really can't be sure here.

Try opening with the Wrye's Bash that shows the mods with an hexadecimal index. If this index approaches FD you have the answer.

PS: this procedure is useful to know the position of certain mod in the load list, enough using the windows calculator to convert between hex/decimal values.



My dear Wrye Bash is what put me on to the fact that the CTD was due to having mods over the limit. I posted about it here in this forum when it first happend. I use Bash almost every day for something or another.

Another trick is to use the Mod Manager to "convert to archive" anything you've made into an OMOD or downloaded as an OMOD. This makes a zipped copy of what all the OMOD contains, including meshes, textures, and the esp's/esm's. Simply right click the OMOD while in the mod manager and select "convert to archive". It doesn't transfer the data to this zipped file but copies it instead. Great for making backups.

It's a 255 limit for higher end machines, BUT a couple of mods that don't have esp's or esm's count toward it. Which ones? I'm not sure. I'm at 253 mods(with 103 merged mods in the bashed patch) and the game will start if I put one more mod in, but CTD after a few steps or one action(such as opening a door). 255 and it won't even load.

I've about 25 mods that don't have esp's or esm's. I'm guessing it's either the 2 eye candy mods I've got or a texture mod.

Funny thing...I downloaded realistic physics and force the other day, used the mod manager to Open archive, and no esp's popped out. Being 95% asleep at the time, I activated the OMOD anyway. There are 6 esp's in the package btw.
These didn't show up as esp's in either the MOD manager or the Wrye Bash, yet in the game they were clearly operating.

The only way I've found around the 255 limit is merges in the Bashed Patch. There are close to 200 I've found so far. The only one of them that didn't work merged was "more books teach". However, the Student MOD, which does the same thing and is also mergeable, works perfectly.

The trick to running multiple mods like I'm doing is to use FCOM helper and Wrye Bash and only use the Mod Manager to make OMODs and of course converting back to archive for backups. FCOM helper puts your mods into a mostly correct load order, which is important to get mods to running right. The Wrye Bash does so much it makes it hard to list them all. This is what I'm currently running.

If I could give you another kudo, I would, but the system won't let me.

I will say that I don't use FCOM helper and don't intend to start anytime soon either. Every so often I download the documentation though and compare my load order to the recommendations in their list.

I allow OBMM and Wrye to let me know when something's amiss. Wrye has a color scheme that helps, and OBMM has built in conflict detection you can utilize when you suspect something is going awry. Awry? heh heh.

Anyway, I don't bother to count, when I go over the limit, game won't load, I open Wrye and it gives me a message stating "Load List Overloaded". Then I weed some out and try again.

While I always have them all still selected, I always use the NVIDIA fog fix option too with Wrye Bash and then Mark Levelers.

Yes, I use that, do you want me to add those that work to your list? It's a great idea!

Actually sometimes it will just flat out say, "not mergeable" or "Can't be Merged" something like that.

I used it for beauty packs in the beginning but I ended up learning how to fix those by hand so they're all in one: hairs, eyes, etc.

If you can't do it in Wrye, sometimes you can do it Tes4Gecko.

Or you could just use FCOM helper for load orders, no calculating needed (for those mathimatically challenged like myself)

That said, as long as you activate the omod first, the ESP will show up in the CS as has been said already.
