I would attempt reloading, and failing that, reinstalling Dawnguard.

I tried it on another machine, still the same problem. And that one doesn't even have any mods installed. The problem still occurs.

This same thing has happened to me, I've looked everywhere and tried everything but the problem seems to be that the actual portal code, as in where you step to trigger the movement, is missing. There is no "To Soul Cairn" as I have seen in other videos, and this is particularly bothersome because I'd like to finish these quests :/

I had the problem that Serana just stood there and did not add her blood at all. So I then typed setstageDLC1VQ04 90, got the quest update and was able to enter the portal. I would reload an earlier save and try that. You do not have to press E or anything, it is like at the beginning at Helgen keep where you just walk through the door.

I'll give it a shot, thanks. Should I put everything in the bowl or just type that in immediately?

Tried it both ways but no luck thus far, I'd REALLY like this issue to be resolved, it's starting to become irrationally frustrating.

::EDIT:: Would it help everyone if I were to upload a video of what it looks like to youtube and link it here? I'm willing to do whatever it takes to fix this.

Already tried the second one, first one wouldn't bring Serana with you and you need her for the quest as I understand it :/

has anyone found a solution yet? I got in fine the first time i played it worked fine but I reloaded an old save game and it's blocked now

going in requires two steps, first after putting the ingredients and talking to serena to put serena's blood in the bowl the portal opens.
you descend but you can't go in if you're not a vampire. go back to serena to have you turned vampire OR have part of your soul trapped. then enter the portal again...worked for me.

i just finished the soul cairn quest but i get a CTD every time i want to go back to tamriel.-edit- oh, and i seem to have lost serena under way -/edit-
