Here's a second vote for northern coast between dawnstar and solitude. the whole area is sloping beaches and generally rock free.

Exactly . . . unless you're using Tropical Skyrim. Then it's a lush and green outpost on the shores of a warm and sunny ocean and it's very very nice.

I actually managed to make mine on a forested hillside near Falkreath. Its a really pretty area, with a nearby lake and a semi-mountain nearby for the mine.

I'm looking for a good location situated in a mountainside that has a natural rock formation covering three sides, so I'd only have to fortify/defend one wall. Any suggestions? I've found a couple of promising locations but they've been much too small. Also, would something like this make the raids buggy? Like spawning enemies and getting them stuck inside/untop of the mountain?
