It's not for me. No point in denying it but as somebody here already said, a lot of modders just see DLC as a massive resource pack and I'll probably download it just to see what it's made of and what I can do with it. Hopefully though this is just something small to keep us going until they release something massive... Who knows?

I hope we see a DLC for Skyrim coming up eventually on par with Shivering Isles for Oblivion, Dawnguard was great but it was more like Knights of the Nine, a new quest line that does not venture into very new territory, whereas the Shivering Isles added a large and completely new world with loads of secondary quests and a whole games worth of new content practically.
Hopefully Hearthfire is not where Bethesda stops, lets see some more small packs like Hearthfire and at least one big whammy of a DLC. C:
Just my ideas.
Also, Bethesda could make a dickload of money if they just kept cranking out new DLCs and quests for the next couple of years instead of stopping after a small number has been released as they did with their previous games.

Why is it all the people who say stuff like this: "beth gives us some resources to play with, we run to nifskope, CK, and notepad++ and call it a day," don't have any mods released? Why do people keep saying "us modders" and "we can do." We can do what? Download mods other people made? We can also buy Hearthfire and support the company that made the game that allows us to download mods other people made.

As someone who was looking forward to this (because the family aspect reminded me of fable and nostalgia took over from there..) I think its safe to say I am disappointed. I was hoping and partially assuming that based on where you chose to build, or in other words the plot you picked, the house would have a basic optional theme to match.
This says otherwise and I have no reason to believe its wrong. Not only is the house in falkreath the same as the house in dawnstar, its style is exactly the same. Its floor plan is exactly the same, and for some reason Beth loves to make extremely bland and boring buildings.
Thanks Beth, but I will stick to mods I think.. Though the aspect of adopting sounds fun.. Except I don't think your kids can be kidnapped, forcing you (or not if your feeling neglectful) to go on a perilous rescue mission to save your little brat. Don't think this was included.. Yes you can fight off giants, but your family is never really in any danger..
EDIT: I like getting negative rep for giving an opinion. Thanks for that and keep it coming

Oh boy, "spending hours trying to wrangle floating items into display cases", and I thought the ElderSims would be boring. Why fight dragons and bandits when you can try to position something without being able to spin it on it's x, y, or z axis?
At least the time from hyping it up to the release was so short, now Bethesda can make DLC that like, expands the game, or something like that. I don't know if DLC has ever done that though. Or copied a mod that already exists.
Whoever thought of Hearthfire should be thrown in one.

I think it will be interesting to see what the community does with this. Adding new plots of land, retexturing and remodeling, adding new textures and models, theming the houses, player-made castles.
Not too expansive, but hey. Its not that bad. Furthermore, Bethesda is definitely worth the support.

I really wish people would stop comparing a five dollar DLC to Shivering Isles. SI wasn't a DLC. It was a full-on expansion, built by a full team with the resources to create heavier content.
This is a side project, built by three or four people, to bridge the gap between more content-heavy releases.

I watched a video of an xboxer xboxing it on Hearthfire. It seemed good, but I can't wait until modders tear into it! Maybe they can make new styles and layouts of the beginning parts of the house.

Hoping this will finally allow us to apprehend the b'strd who keeps breaking in and throwing display weapons on the floor.
