As a new player to Dark Souls I just wanted to say thanks for making my first experience look as best as possible.

That said, anyone want to give me a more detailed description on choosing the DOF setting? I'm running 810, while my main res is 1920x1080

SMAA is on 4, and SSAO is on 2

Post some screens with what settings people have chosen please!

@Renn: I wish commenting out "maxFPS 30" worked for me but it does not. No matter what v1.5 halves my FPS when compared to v1.4 - testing with the same save and graphic settings.

@D749 Commenting out the new frame rate camp won't restore a halved fps- it would just stop the new cap from bouncing around over and under 30 a few frames either way. It's not so much a framerate improvement as it just replaces an unstable cap with the vanilla, stable one. What gpu and cpu are you using? Especially cpu- because that seems to be the most heavily used part for this game. My 560 superclocked runs it almost the same as Rennn's 460 oc, because our cpu's are almost identical- a 4 core and a 6 core Phenom II at 3.2 ghz, respectively. But, of course, Dark Souls only uses two of our cores each. I want to know so I can tell if you should be getting better fps, or if it's just a hardware limitation.

Posting all this here to find out if I have set up dsfix wrong or whether there are deeper issues. System is a intel i3, windows 7 64bit, annnnd a radeon x1900xt 516mb(I know this thing is old and could potentially be the problem).

So my problems to date. With or Without dsfix I can not see my player model in character creation See here.

When I play the game Without dsfix but With in game AA and SSAO on, things work fine and the game is playable.

When I play the game Without dsfix and Without in game AA or SSAO things look like this.

And then, With dsfix with or without AA and SSAO enabled the game always looks like this.

Also if you cannot see the screen shots or want any other information to try and solve this please let me know. I left the dsfix file basically with it's default settings.

I'm also seeing decreased performance in 1.5, possibly from two sources. (Rig is i7-920 @ 2.6ghz, 6GB, Radeon 5850, running 1440p.)

First is replacement textures; with them on I was getting fairly regular full-second freezes in New Londo Ruins. The only non-UI texture mod was Vurt's.

Second is that AA and SSAO seem to incur real performance hits now, whereas I did not see such before. For example, with AA at 3 and SSAO at 2 (SSAO level doesn't affect performance, I know) I now get lots of slowdown in the phalanx courtyard of Painted World. Turn one off and it improves, turn both off and it's back to solid 30.

It'd be nice if I could go back to 1.4 AA/SSAO performance while retaining DDS support. I mind the overzealous SSAO (at bonfires and such) in prior versions much less than this performance drop.

@ajane But the old SSAO also makes skies look like 16-bit images. I don't like the fps hit either, but the 1.4 version was really messing up the fog and skies.

There shouldn't really be a higher performance impact for SSAO/SMAA compared to earlier versions. It's doing the exact same thing as before, just at a different point during the rendering of the game...

I personally haven't noticed any performance drop.

I'm noticing just marginally different performance with my 560 sc from 1.4 to 1.5. Most places are a solid 30, but I inexplicably lose fps when looking in certain (not even graphically impressive or cluttered) directions in the Demon Ruins and Blighttown. I'm downsampling from 2048x1152 to 1600x900, enforcing 8 times csaa and 4 times transparency super-sampling with 16 times anisotropic filtering. 810 dof resolution with no additional blur. Durante's ambient occlusion is enabled at setting 2. My fps doesn't change more than 1-3 fps if I run at these settings, or at 720p without any enforceable effects enabled. I'm guessing I have a cpu bottleneck, since my cpu peaks at 34% capacity- but I have a 6 core cpu, and DS only uses 2 cores. (60/20=30%) I estimate I lost overall a couple of fps from 1.4 to 1.5, but I'm still at a stable 30 almost everywhere- where it drops, it just drops a little lower.
