reason: thinking is for wusses! and to use rl as a reason, ever notice how brute force almost always works best when fixing a problem?
worst: mages guild
reason: i can't be the only one who's noticed thats its soooo much easier to beat everything up than to use spells like you should be for the quests. the only pro i can think of is that they get the best endgame reward out of all the guilds: THE INGREDIENT MULTIPLYERER (enchanted chest)

Both of which had a disappointing ending (imo). I didn't like the very 'religious' direction the dark brotherhood took/portrayed. I'm all for feeling like I'm part of a faction - but I joined the Dark Brotherhood for a sort of sinister form of pay - I didn't want to join a cult. Also, nearly all the Dead Drop orders were a complete bore for me. Thankfully I stuck through it but god, having the Dark Brotherhood resort to such linear quests from the Dead Drops was extremely disappointing
Mages Guild was extremely boring for me. I barely managed to finish it, as when the meeting with Mannimarco (sp?), whoever that last guy was, the final fight bugged - the cage never rose and he was unhittable. Confused the first few attempts when I couldn't hit him at all - I then quit out of the game to read up on what should have happened. I sighed when I found out that I had run into a bug and that this would be the end of the Mages Guild questline - as I restarted my game my whole interest in completing the questline dropped massively. I knew that this was the end and it was hardly interesting for me. I used the console to kill the guy (was still bugged) and fast traveled back. Yay - I'm head of the Mages Guild but it just felt so empty and boring. Was hardly an epic questline that I was hoping.
Fighter's Guild? god I just got too bored. I can't remember the farthest I've gotten on any of my characters, but it didn't feel like the 'mercenary' type of fighting contracts I was hoping. The whole thing felt too bland for me and I enjoyed a lot of side quests much more than anything I've experienced in the Fighter's Guild so far.
Theives' Guild? for me it was worse than the Fighter's Guild. I blame it mostly on the bland stealth mechanics in oblivion. Sneaking in oblivion, even with plenty of mods, felt like a tacked on aspect of gameplay, and not being able to kill just bored me. I got maybe halfway through but when they told me to travel half-way across the map again I just stopped caring. The storyline just wasn't engrossing enough.
My favorite questline is still Shadows in a Struggle for Power from OOO. The plot, although conveyed in text, just felt much deeper and trying to solve the puzzle of what to find next and where. I guess overall I think the guild questline provided in the vanilla oblivion are just poorly written. I hardly consider betrayal a good plot twist in this day and age of story telling - sigh @ Dark Brotherhood. As for the others - it just wasn't interesting at all. I've had more interesting side quests - like that one hunters one on the stranded island fortress.

Why: I get to sneak around and kill people in hillarious ways.
Least favourite: Thieves' Guild
Why: I get to sneak around, but I don't get to kill anyone, whereas with every other questline, I do. What's the fun in it when you can't just go stab someone in their sleep, or leap and behead them (with mods of course)? By contrast, I thouroughly enjoyed the Thief series - but the whole "stealing things" was just far more engaging, and the stealth system was just so much better (i.e. I'm detected simply because I am not in 'sneak mode'), and there were real tools to make your job of sneaking much easier. I am aware that there are mods, but the environment isn't quite designed to allow you to use them effectively.
Fighters Guild was a close second for worst - I get to kill people, and lots of them - but I have to lug around brutish and incredibly stupid "helpers".

Arena scored lowest in this... sure, the raiment has great stats, but there's also the (shudder) Adoring Fan.

I voted them mainly based on quests, rewards, storyline, fun and charisma. That said, my vote:
- Better guild: Dark Brotherhood.
Great unique rewards, some unforgettable quests (Whodunit?), a real storyline with memorable moments.
- Worse guild: Fighters'
Rewards were only few septims, boooring storyline and incredibly useless ending unique item. The only nice moment is when you see Oreyn's painting!
EDIT: Arena IMO is not a real guild...

I personally actually enjoyed the storyline to the Thieves guild quite a bit. The twist added to the Cowl and the Gray Fox being 'forced' into his position was a very nice touch to it. While it did feel the most liniar out of all of the guilds, the quests actually fit very well within the storyline. So did the rules such as don't steal from another member and don't kill an innocent. (Otherwise they might as well have been the Dark Brotherhood)
Worst: Fighters
I personally hated the story line to this one. It had no real substance nor were the quests actually very fun. Although I did get a nice chuckle during the first quest. I had rushed in and just killed all the rats thinking it was a tribute to Morrowind.
Edit: It was actually a close decision between the Fighters guild and Mages guild for the worst guild but the Mages guild redeems itself after you enter the academy (travelling ALL over Cyrodiil doing the retarded recommendation quests was just horrible especially since I refuse to use fast travel)

Why: The reason I chose the TG over the DB is because of the last quest. That was such an awesome and lenghty quest. I didn't like the way the DB ended and the quests became boring after the 'Purification'.
Worst: Arena
Why: I just found it incredibly tedious. Sure you get to kill people, but at least the DB let you do so in innovative and engaging ways rather than just hack n'slash for 2 hours until you become so bored you become suicidal.
