I have struggled for the last several months just to get a stable set of mods and a playable game. I invested 6 months of play in a character and 8 followers (UFO) and just didn't want to start over from scratch.
I haven't used TESEdit yet, but plan to, since every now and then when I load a saved game I CTD. I've been able to get back to that saved game by loading a prior one that is stable, fast travel somwhere where I can sleep in a bed for more than 24 hours, then fast travel back to where I want to continue the game and save it, then do the cache verification and reload. That seems to be a brute force method, but nowhere as step by step as your recommendations.
I hope you archive these in a troubleshooting guide that goes along with the non-experimental release.
Thanks and Kudos!

Which response and troubleshooting guide? Keep in mind, I post in several threads, try to get the CK Wiki updated for plugin cleaning, admin both TESVSnip and TES5Edit, try to update Wrye Bash record definitions, and try to update the UESP Wiki.Wow! Fantastic response and troubleshooting guide. These steps should be widely documented on just about all threads that deal with troubleshooting Skyrim, whether or not Boss or TESEdit is used.

Are you referring to my two long posts, or my two walls of text? That is actually just my trying to help a user that felt TES5Edit messed up Skyrim, which it didn't, however, I still care about it and I want to try and help resolve it.

I am still in the process of changing links all over the place after getting approval from Elminster to host Edit on the Nexus.

I did notice something odd come up in my journey's through my files, remnants of a mod I thought I had well and truly unistalled and deleted and it has made me wonder because it was a mod heavy on scripts (the only heavy mod I actually ever used) and I know the modder since has run his mod through the TES5Edit and found some issues he needed to clean up. Reports are his mod is stable now, but I do wonder if it's pre TES5Edit run and clean up was a large part of the problem I had. I had always used the BSA version of the Mod, but had last time tried the 'Loose Files' version and then later un-installed it, not that long before running the TES5Edit in my game. Is it possible that is what caused this crash?
I also noted another odd issue, my Skyrim ini wasn't where you said it would be, the SkyrimPrefs.ini was but not the Skyrim ini, I have no idea why it wasn't and it has been corrected now.
I don't know enough and am not confident enough to download the Wyrebash Python as yet, though am looking into maybe getting some help to do so. That is something else that can't wait for the moment, just want a clean game with some of my beloved mods at this time.
Thank you again Sharlikran. I can't tell you how much I have appreciated the time you have taken out for me and the help given. I am truly sorry I accused my lame attempts at working the TES5Edit as the cause of my crash and offer you my sincere apologies. I have certainly learned a lot in these last few days and hopefully am the wiser for it now. I would very much like to keep your walk through posts for future reference and further study if you wouldn't mind?....Thank you Sharlikran.

Yes, your post with embedded spoilers (http://forums.nexusm...ost__p__6499203) makes an excellent troubleshooting guide all on its own. Merged into your tutorial or Cleaning Guide, I think it would help the novice (me) to start to troubleshoot why his game is crashing in various forms since he started adding in mods.
It's taken me 4-5 months to even get to this state discovering TES5Edit only last week!

That's good news! Just be sure to visit their site and get the version for the new version of Skyrim that came out today.@Sharlikran....It took me a while....nerves....
....But I have finally gone through the steps, did enlist the help of one of my daughters boyfriends in translating some PC speak and discussing the steps between us to make sure I was definitely on the right path. As far as I can make out and understand my Skyrim is now as clean and stable as a vanilla Skyrim can be.I ran the Steam cache, etc....I had to remove the SKSE altogether as the SKSE sight seems to be down so I was unable to upgrade, but that's for another day.
Would you be willing to enlist your daughters boyfriend to help you post some of those translations of PC speak into words you understood? Can you paraphrase it somehow with his help? If I make this a troubleshooting tutorial I want to have it be written well so that it's easy to understand.
That's fine, install one plugin at a time and see how the game is working, that's not a bad idea at all. Only I'd do it on a character that had already visited Riverwood, or maybe one that had already killed the first dragon. Have to places to visit and some fast travel points, maybe use the cart to visit the major cities as so on. Sometimes fast traveling and running around the game will crash if something altered the Navmesh or some important part of the plugin.I also haven't added any mods as yet, it was a big enough day for me limping through the instructions...
....so step 5 will be waiting until tomorrow. I didn't want to take any chances at all so completely deleted all of my mods, I would rather spend time on a hunt mission to re-find those I love than chance another corruption.
Yeah left over scripts, like any other loose file may or may not cause an issue, and dirty edits could as well.I did notice something odd come up in my journey's through my files, remnants of a mod I thought I had well and truly un installed and deleted and it has made me wonder because it was a mod heavy on scripts (the only heavy mod I actually ever used) and I know the modder since has run his mod through the TES5Edit and found some issues he needed to clean up. Loose files can be an issue but it really depends on what they are, and I'm off to work can;t explain more atm., but I do wonder if it's pre TES5Edit run and clean up was a large part of the problem I had. I had always used the BSA version of the Mod, but had last time tried the 'Loose Files' version and then later un-installed it, not that long before running the TES5Edit in my game. Is it possible that is what caused this crash?
Make sure you have them where I indicated if you have Windows 7.I also noted another odd issue, my Skyrim ini wasn't where you said it would be, the SkyrimPrefs.ini was but not the Skyrim ini, I have no idea why it wasn't and it has been corrected now.
Download v301 Installer here. That Installer will not need the Python dependencies. You don't need a Download Manager, nor any special registration, just click the middle link if I remember correctly.I don't know enough and am not confident enough to download the Wyrebash Python as yet, though am looking into maybe getting some help to do so. That is something else that can't wait for the moment, just want a clean game with some of my beloved mods at this time.
No problem.Thank you again Sharlikran. I can't tell you how much I have appreciated the time you have taken out for me and the help given. However, this is what I get when I click TES5Edit.exe
Fatal: Could not open registry key: \SOFTWARE\Bethesda Softworks\Skyrim\
Now, I've re-validated both my CK and Skyrim files, and tried again -- same error.
I've uninstalled TES5, re-validated CK and Skyrim again, and re-downloaded and reinstalled TES5 -- Same error.
Little un-handy when I want to be sure I've not got a dirty mod... But I figured I'd let you folks know. I don't know if this is a bug, or if this is me messing something up.
