...

Reckon the game will be as cinematic as the trailer?

That was in-game footage in the trailer, not cgi work.

Darrah confirmed it in a tweet from E3 later that day.

Ok I skimmed over this.  Have they commented at all about modding?  If I missed it I am sorry.  Words are blurring together at this point.  :P

They are working on ways on bring modding to DA3 but it isn't high on their list as they want to develop the main game first. It's more about how to deal with 3rd party software rather than not wanting their fans to mod their games. Plus since this is a DICE engine, they are usually the ones who can make the SDK for the public. So the official word is we don't know but watch this space.

Two thoughts on any hope of modding DA3:

1) Both DICE and BioWare are part of EA, so shouldn't be hard to get the SDK, if  they're really serious about that.

But...

2) The FrostBite engine is absurdly hard to mod for (say those who have tried for other games that employ it.)  As of now, they haven't yet released a toolset for FB2.

I would love to see mods for DA3, but not holding my breath.

I guess I am cynical about anything EA is involved in at this point.  Since they basically have stated they plan to micro-transaction the crap out of all their games I think giving people the ability to mod their games is dropping like a stone.  My cynicism thinks we will see this even going into The Sims games and the like as they struggle to keep a stranglehold on content.  Mods don't yet make them money directly.  Many companies don't seem to get how many sales get added to their pockets by making moddable games that people will get for years and years longer than a normal game.

I will probably pass on this then until the price plummets.  I honestly don't buy any games new anymore than aren't moddable right out of the gate (its a financial decision more than a philosophical one.)  If this game is good and EA doesn't somehow give it the touch of death then I will get it when the sales come.  You all enjoy it and keep bugging them for a toolset!!  It will be interesting to see what happens.

Cool, that's all I wanted to know. I knew it was in-game footage, but I was just wondering if it was "proper", you know what I mean? I can't explain it, there's a term to explain it that I can't remember.

Can't wait for this game to come out! Although both Cassandra and Morrigan looks awful in this video. :(

I didn't mind them. They look more realistic IMO.

The SDK handed out to developer is completely different to the ones that they give to modders. The modders SDK has all the third party software removed that doesn't clash with their licencing deals with various software companies, which costs thousands of dollars (it's the whole reason why ME is switching from Unreal to Frostbyte). When they release a toolkit to the public, they have to make sure that those 3rd party software is out and that means spending money on people to make a SDK for the general public. It has nothing to with EA, it has nothing to do with them making more money (which they have every right to profit on MTs and DLCs), in fact they are smart to know that having modding on PC increases the shelf life of a game. The reason is more about budget and I would rather have developers spend their money on making a game that works rather than making an SDK for the public to fix your mess (I'm looking at you Beth). Also a toolkit is a gift from developers to their fans, they don't have an obligation to make toolkits if they don't want to but I'll encourage them to consider making it at least after they done developing the game. There are plenty of games out there that don't have modding and are fun to play and that's what the DA development team should focus on before they make something that only a small group would use at best.

@BKE;

Oh, I agree completely that there are plenty of excellent non-moddable games, (the ME-series comes immediately to mind) and also that it's totally up to the developer/publisher whether they decide to provide the community with the tools to make modding easier (or even possible!)

I simply meant that the decision is pretty much up to BioWare, since they and DICE are part of the same corporate structure.  And as for 3rd-party license issues, (I'm looking at you too, Beth) there should indeed be far fewer, if any.

However, since they do have access to the game-engine team, a toolkit could be created without  taking significant staff (although perhaps needing budget) resources away from the DA3 development effort.  If  they wanted to... :whistling:

Yes I understand what releasing a toolkit entails but thanks for the reminder.

I gave my opinion.  Nothing more.  As I said my decision is more due to my extremely limited finances than my philosophical opinions.  We may have to agree to disagree about the influence EA has on things but that is not important.  You are right a company has no obligation to do a damn thing.  I also have no obligation to buy those games either.  I never said there were no good, fun non-moddable games, did I? *looks over the post*  Nope.  However based on many games I have purchased spending $60 or more on a game that will give me limited value is not something I can do anymore (three kids..2 in high school and one beginning middle school among other things.)  A game with mods usually will give me much more "value" (at least in my own eyes-more content, longer replay, bugs that get fixed by our wonderful modders-yes I am looking at you Beth also) than normal so if a game doesn't have one I usually am forced to pass til its in the sales bin.

I also won't go so far to say as a toolkit is a "gift" from the gods on high.  It is a wonderful gesture that, as you said, does not have to be done.  But if you think that is the only reason a developer releases one I would think you would be mistaken.  To the front-line game makers working daily...its something to share.  To the company "entity" and those that make the big decisions...it's money every, single time.

Regardless....again I gave my opinion on buying it.  I did not make any assumptions about the quality of the game or anything else about DA3 itself (other than my opinion on EA's impact on games at times.).  I hope it is a fantastic game as that will only help the industry in total.

However, since I have decided to pass for now I will take myself from this discussion.  Thank you.

I'm giving you information from people that I know from the industry as well as what I read up in the various media. I'm not disparaging you, just giving you as much info as you need to make your choice and you already made it and I understand. What I'm telling you is that EA works like all other companies do and giving them the evil eye is just player's overreaction. This whole "EA is the Devil" thing really needs to stop and is really pathetic for grown people to act like five year olds in the Internet.

Hey everyone, I have some screenshots for you. While yes it's from the trailer, remember that the trailer is in-game engine and not CGI
