No Romania, that's so racist.

I agree with muttz_nuttz, I think it would be better to have a feature where you can set the classes of the squaddies that you hire. Right now, if you set the rank to squaddies for new hires you wind up with newly recruited squaddies that aren't assigned a class which really isn't particularly useful.

@ bokauk

Maybe you can do something similar to the new guy upgrade in the OTS combined with the gender probability feature of your program. That is your program will automatically promote recruits to squaddie as soon as they are hired but set the probability of the class that each recruit will be assigned to (ie: the player can set something like 50% assault, 25% support, 15% heavy, 10% sniper)

Nice mod if I could get it to work. If I change to nationality or gender to anything other than default XCOM crashes. If I change back to default values XCOM starts working ok again. And so on.

It's on my list of things to look in to :)

It sounds like the mod is working but you're either forgetting to run XSHAPE or that XSHAPE is generating errors that you need to resolve before you run the game. What does the output from XSHAPE say?

Ok I now don't think it is a selective recruitment problem. When I run java -jar XSHAPE.jar -v 26444500 in comand line I get java not recognised as internal or external command, operable program or batch file. This dispite updateing to latest Java version. Investigating.

Google for: set java path
I think that might be the problem :)

bokauk you are a wonderful person, this utility works great to give me my ESTROGEN ARMY!

PiersAS, this may help you with XSHAPE: http://forums.nexusm...ost__p__6557213

I find that there is a gap in most explanations concerning modding XCOM from modder to user. Like skipping a step that seems obvious to the modder or something you'd know to do if you know everything about your system but most of us users don't know everything they do and find having to prep certain files and delete others kind of scary. So thanks bokauk, you seem to explain things better than most but this stuff gets hairy and I appreciate your patience with us. Keep up the good work.

Great job, works perfectly. I'm also just using the gender ratio control and leaving nationality random at the moment, but I'd probably use a function that controlled ratio of nationalities rather than selecting only one. Any other functions you add in the future to further customize and control the game in this way will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the kind words, glad you find the mod useful :)

I've updated it to version 0.2.1 which now supports the latest patch released today. Described in Version.txt as:
Date: Thursday, November 01, 2012 9:41 PM
Changelist: 342245

I've removed the starting rank option as it appeared it might have had the potential to cause problems.

Adjusting the nationality ratio from a selected group of countries seems to be a popular feature request. I'll look into creating a save game editor, but if I don't have much luck with that, then I'll add the nationality ratio feature to this mod :)
