I did it with steam on offline mode. And i still get the completing installaion. Like i said its a steam issue. It seems to think my copy of X-Com is corrupted...so i'm redownloading the whole thing PS- i did the delete the exe and let steam verify integrity...nope didn't work *glares at Steam*

Well my problem is everytime after i run the modpatcher.exe, steam keeps popping up the completing installation when i run the game. And yeah i followed the steps accordingly. Its bloody steam being a jerk...gonna try to reinstall...

To run modded games with Steam, you have to put Steam in 'offline' mode. This is described in an earlier post in this thread (and elsewhere).

Also keep in mind that, after a fresh install or a 'verify local content', you must actually run the unmodified game once with steam in online mode so that it can go through its first-time setup and decompress the unmodified .upk files that it needs. Only begin modding after that.

So no ones found a way to get this working while Steam is online?

There's a workaround somewhere. I think I saw it on the discussion thread for Warspace Extension, though you may have to look several dozen posts back.

Well my first attempt followed the instructions and i already had complete a full normal diff run...so the steam first steps installation were already completed. So its probably steam being stupid and seems to think the game is somehow corrupted. Edit : Got it working now...yeah it was really steam thinking X-Com was corrupted. After uninstalling X-com, clearing all necessary folder and reinstalling. It now works.

Figured out the problem, a full reinstall seems to have done the trick, probably some corrupted file or something then.

If you manually edit defaultGameCore, it is possible to add spaces in a way that breaks the parsing code.
You could try opening the original defaultGameCore.ini that comes with the game or the one that ships with my Battlescape mod to isolate the problem.

If you make your defaultGameCore available, I can debug it.

Hi all. Good mod, but I'm curious as to how to increase the number of fragments dropped. Is it fragment balance? Thank you.

How am I supposed to open the .ini with it? I tried open with > I tried to open a new file in the program, but it shows all the files as empty... yet if I browse them outside of the mod, they are there.

The open file dialog defaults to looking for files with an extension of .mod. You can change the dropdown to look for files with an extension of .ini or *.*.

The way I normally use it is:

1. Locate DefaultGameCore.ini on your hard drive.
2. Copy it to the same folder as XcomGame.exe renaming it to DefaultGameCore.mod.
3. Open DefaultGameCore.mod in XCOM Meddler and change some values.
4. Run patcher.bat to execute ModPatcher.exe and apply the changes to the game.

You can use my XCOM Battlescape mod as a starting point if necessary. It contains a readme with instructions, patch.bat, modpatcher.exe, and my modified DefaultGameCore.mod.

Don't forget to backup the original XComGame.exe so you can restore the original game if you need to.
