Change NPC Face

Not sure what would cause that, could be the head not matching up to the body. The head is set to high on the skeleton, alpha channel (if any) is weird. Or you need the tri, don't know what they are still. Can ya attach a picture, so I can get a better view of what's wrong.

I'm currently using basskimm's great mod "girls of skyrim" in order to learn how to modify some npc.

Here is what I get, there is a small gap between the body and the head. I'm using a method which works quite good : create your character as you want the NPC to look like, spf "name" IG and then in CK under character gen, "import"... From there I just have Apachii Hair to open with skyrim.esm to add it (I don't know why, but it doesn't work if I don't do that even if it works for pretty face and cbbe I think). Then Crtl+F4 and save.

But what I get in game is something like that ! :ohdear:

Many people here have been modified NPC and I think I'm not the first one to get problems doing so... Any help will be much appreciated please. :)

Alright man from what I have read on other forums, had to do a Google search for this one. This problem pops up when you change a npc's weight in the Creation Kit after meeting them in game. The game saves there original weight in the save files. In game, hit the console command button `, click on the Ysolda that will bring up her I.D.. After clicking on her, type in " setnpcweight xxx ". For the xxx put her weight, for an example with my characters it would be " setnpcweight 001 " "setnpcweight 025". Hopefully that will fix it for ya.

ALL RIGHT!!! I finally somewhat managed to do it... It took me about 2 days to understand how it works, and to actually manage to do it.

The way I have always done this - in the Creation Kit load up SKYRIM.esm and the mod that has the face you want. Go to ACTORS>ACTOR, in the Filter type housecarl. Double click on HOUSECARLWHITRUN, Lydia's character window will pop up. Either write down what the trait menu says, or try and open Lydia's character window twice. Under template data, select the character you want Lydia to look like, then check USE TRAITS. Once everything is loaded, uncheck TRAITS, and put Lydia's traits back to normal.

To change a NPC face, there are two ways doing it. One is as Dart98Rock told me and I really thank you for your help!!

The other one is as said by other people / tutorials : (please forgive me to write it down, I am doing it for other people as much as for myself, to remember it ! )

Make your character as you want the NPC look like, using whatever mod you want, and then use the console command "spf name". Then, in the CK use "import" to import the face to the NPC (...) The only thing is that when you created your character and use the console command spf, it does not save the Apachii hair, and I don't know why. But not important as we can still use CK to change it. After doing that, Crtl-F4 to avoid dark face bug and voila !

However, just like me, some may have a neck gap problem. It seems we have 2 solutions to solve it.

I am using CBBE body and the 1st solution is to use CalienteTools : TexBlendLite. It will automatically make the gap disappear. (or at least, it will be "hard" to see it).

Otherwise, using CK, don't be afraid of changing modified NPC weight from 1.0000 to 20.0000 or even more. We won't really see any change in game, and it will solve the neck gap. Using this method, I got this ! No more neckgap ! Great!

From there, I tried updating it with makeup... Because I'd rather like my NPC have red lips. Using mods, it seems that we cannot edit lips or eyes color... The only thing we can do is edit hair & hair color.

I'll quote what I found on Nexus, thanks to these people, I understand how to do what I want for the lips.

Try changing the lip color with Bethesda's textures. I assume the CK is currently unable to render higher resolution lip or tattoo textures. Is there anything valuable in the esp/esm file you're having trouble with? If not' date=' I suggest deleting it (or if it's a downloaded mod, replacing it) and starting over with a new esp. [/quote']
Personally' date=' I use coverwomen and pretty lips mods. If I go in the CK to try and change the lip color of an npc, firstly i dont see a lip color, secondly i dont see any changes i try to make.

I then disabled the textures related to mentioned mods (just temporarily rename .../textures/actors/character/character assets/tintmasks folder to something different), and next went into CK again.

Now I did see lip color, and was also able to change it. Afterward the changed lip color was also visible in game, even after re-enabling the face mods, by renaming the tintmask folder back to its original name.

The CK just does not show lip color, and is not able to change lip color, when you have high res lip textures active. [/quote']

Using that method, I manage to make Ysolda look like this : (I just have to check & be sure that only Ysolda have these lips' makeup though  )

Now I only have one problem left... I want to use MissAniThrope and chakaru11s C Eyes for my NPC. For the time being, I could not find how to do it. Using CK, I just got back the dark face bug even when I use the Crtl-F4 ! It's just like "what the hell?" Moreover, I got this darkface, and she does NOT have the eyes I want... :wallbash:

There must be something I'm missing... I just thought it at first that I can use it as Apachii hair, but it seems it will not work so smoothly...

Would anyone be so nice to explain me how to "import" modded eyes to edit a NPC please ?

EDIT : Thanks Dart98Rock ! But using the console command "setnpc weight" will make any tatoo or warpaint or even some kind of makeup disappear... However,

This problem pops up when you change a npc's weight in the Creation Kit after meeting them in game. The game saves there original weight in the save files
is maybe not true. Maybe it saves it as soon as we first save the game, but not after we first met the character or not. I did a test during a game I did not enter whiterun yet, and Ysolda would have the same issue. Using CK will make the gap disappear no matter if I met her before.

  • 1 month later...

In regards to Lydia. I can't seem to change her. What I mean is that the changes that I make don't appear in game. In addition, more than 50% of the time when I try to save the file in the CK it never opens the "save as" window. Therefore, I can't type in say, "Lydia."

That said, I have no problems whatsoever with recreating of fixing any other NPC --in Skyrim, Hearthsfires or Dawnguard. It is just Lydia.

Can someone help me out, I'm trying to change Lydia's stance from male to female, and it seems simple enough. Only after I save it and try and load it up (with the "Save as BSA" ticked) My game crashes before entering the main menu. I know it is that specific mod crashing it, but I don't know how to fix it...
