Centaur Race

For some reason, I've always wanted to play as a centaur, and who's to say that they aren't lore-firendly, Elder Scrolls is already crawling with all kinds of Greek and Roman mythical creatures, so a playable centaur race would be a great addition. has anybody made something like this?

They could use horse animations for their legs with the torso using human animations for the hands and head. They could wear most of the same armors as humans, except for the feet, considering boots can't attach to hooves very well. Their traits would include a bonus to carry weight ad speed.

So, first would this be possible without being to exceptionally glitchy?

Bethesda's to say it's not lore friendly. TES is a fictional world with fictional lore and most of it's native flora and fauna have already been mapped out pretty extensively

That said, I have no problems with your desire for a centaur race. Though I feel I should warn you that though it might be possible, it would likely be rather difficult. Previous attempts to create centaur races in other Elderscrolls games have met with mixed results. Usually it proves too time consuming and difficult to create the new models, create and implement new animations (yes, new animations would be required, along with new skeletons) for the models, and finally, custom fit all the stock armor in the game to the models.

Even when concentrating on just one sex, instead of two, these projects have so far never come to full completion.

There is a WIP centair race on Nexus.

There is a working skeleton and female model. Though after posting the skeleton (youtube vid showing that it is working) the would be mod author stopped posting reports. Maybe he ran into some walls ? I don't know.

Anyway. All I wanted to say is, that it is hope.

So lets just hope it will happen someday.

Centaurs were in Daggerfall as an enemy type, so it's definitely lore friendly.

However, this would be a massive amount of work to mod. Not only do you need a whole new skeleton and dozens of new animations, but then you need to re-mesh (or restrict) all of the vanilla armor. Doors are made for things of roughly human height, so that would be another thing to work around. Maybe crouching under doors wouldn't look too ridiculous if it was a lithe, agile kind of centaur.

Hi all, I actually am working on a centaur race. And I've gotten further than many of the others. For example, my centaur race is mostly animating in game. The human and horse body are both animating. There are some major issues. The biggiest being that the back legs distort for some reason. I believe I need to write/edit the skeleton.hkx file to make the back leg bones part of the rig, but I have yet to figure out that file. If some kind soul were to help read the skeleton.hkx/xml file so I could add the bones that would be excellent. Otherewise my centaur may come to the same fate as all the others :(.

Thread necro

That said, I have very little experience or info about animating new creatures so I'll point you to modders like Fore (FNIS) and Anton0028 (Animated Dragon Wings and a whole bunch of useful hkx-related tools). As I recall, there was some big problem about decoding Skyrim's behaviour files which is why we still don't have completely original new races for this game - might be wrong there and someone's already made one, my admittedly sparse info goes back a year or more. Good luck.

I did actually get my centaurs to work. They are currently a modder's resource on the nexus. Unfortunately, I couldn't get the player character version to work. So, it's just the ugly enemy/npc version. Though I did include the failed player character esp with it. The pc version is 75 percent functioning, maybe a talented individual will come along and figure out what I was missing.
