OK, CNet makes it clear: UPDATE, 2:40 p.m. PT: There has been clarification since this story broke. Adobe has not released the CS2 software for free. Instead, it has cancelled its CS2 license management servers, so for those with existing licenses it is now offering downloads that do not require contact with the licensing servers. Google it for obscure adobe forum post reference that no one probably reads. However On that DL page and when installing the software it makes no mention of that and never does it ask you such things when you install it. It still has the standard EULA when you install it. It's there, the download is legit and not pirated, it can be DLed and used by anyone and mentions nothing otherwise to the fact, just pretend I said nothing. There are several serious websites claiming that the CS2 would be free.The files and keys are still up. :confused: I mean, just because a dude on a forums said something else... Even the article himself is still linking to them. Thanks, btw. Most German websites just link to the German versions, like so. And this version would not be my favourite one. So if there's a misinformation, then on which side?Yeah well that was people jumping to conclusions, understandably though imo, since then Adobe has clarified what it is for in direct response to the whole internet saying it is free. So there is no need to listen to anyone else. I mean I was about to make this thread about it being free myself :). ziitch Posted January 24, 2013 Share Posted January 24, 2013 (edited) I just hope that after this little debacle, Adobe realizes just how dependent the digital art scene is on them, and how much the pricing of the CS is holding back potential digital artists, even to the point where some have to pirate just so they can start their career and hope they are successful enough to pay for it afterwards. I mean, really, I do think the digital arts are just being exploited by software makers and a few hardware makers at this day and age. For instance, with the advent of touchscreen tablets, Wacom is now very vulnerable at being called exploitative; they've got pressure-sensitive tablets at very high prices, where least expensive ones mostly just give you a small section of the usual canvas you'd be working on, trying to pinpoint where your strokes would be going from pad to canvas. Now, what would happen if someone took Wacom's pressure sensitivity, put it in a digital pen, gave it tablet compatibility, and also let it come with some software that gives you the same amount of control that Wacom has in their tablets? Now you've got a miniature Cintiq that has way more functionality, way more mobility, and likely at a much less expensive price. This is a threat that they seriously need to realize before someone with some cash and an entrepreneurial spirit does, or at least realize that hardware pricing should be reconsidered to reflect the rise of use of this technology...
