it's me or the altmer look different? maby too human?
I mean, one of the things that i liked about TES was that the non-human races looked pretty inhuman, i hope they stick with the original style....
however.....i want to play as an imperial! damn!

Thus ends The Elder Scrolls saga, not with a bang but with a whimper.

So sad that this abortion is actually moving ahead. Up til now, TES was "one hero's epic story", not "collect 50 boar testicles to receive 50 XP." Unless Bethsoft somehow conjures up the same revolutionary vision and massive resources of ArenaNet, this will be just another MMO amongst many. Holy trinity, rooted combat, gear progression, all the good stuff.

I'm not saying ArenaNet is some kind of super-visionary company or that Guild Wars 2 is a game-to-end-all-games... it isn't... but at least it broke the mold, and it took a LONG time to develop and a lot of effort. For Bethsoft to come up with something similar would mean to bleed dry every single other project... Not even, to properly develop even a "traditional" MMO they'll need to bleed dry every single other project.

So there will never be another single-player TES, and the MMO will die on the vine or go F2P and quietly rot shortly after an overhyped launch, just like SWTOR and DC Universe Online.

So sad.

@DamarStiehl : listen, the voice of doom has spoken ;)

I would say GW2 is a pretty lame MMO - if you want to talk of innovative or great mmos go for Age of conan, The secret World or EVE online - those were all great mmos...

I tried out gw2 but was bored in the testing phase like in wow once. Yes it was a well made and crafted mmo but besides the events and well made auction house there was not much real innovative or outstanding Stuff.

Lets wait what Future is bringing and give the Guys at Zenimax and Bethsoft Time to create the Game the Way they like it.

Don't bury what is not dead.

Hopefully the Elves look like a normalized version of what they looked like in Morrowind (Like the TESO concept art). They were baby-faced in Oblivion, and I don't even know where the crap alien look from Skyrim came from...

@brighty

you made a stupid point and i shredded it. you completely missed the point of the trailer, you missed the things in the trailer like the dwemer armor that is VERY MUCH A TES STYLE THAT NO OTHER GAME HAS EVER INCORPORATED. i'm not even 100% sure you watched it to be honest. there were some obvious TES-specific things in it

and your knock was that it was generic fantasy. you were wrong. i am going to assume you're just another crybaby hater who knows that MMO means "everyone will know i'm not that good"

it's a VERY common issue among "casuals". casuals are and will always be a running joke in the MMO world and for good reason, most casuals are simply lazy. they don't have to do their own theorycrafting, they simply have to read what the guy who did it says or hit a few buttons in a sim.

that's the real issue, some of you folks don't want to be pushed by others because you either feel you can't reach that level or you just don't want to.

i've yet to see ONE person make an anti TESO point that wasn't completely rooted in exactly nothing. you folks don't even know who is making it lol and that's been public knowledge for months

Im kind of mixed when it comes to mmos I use to play Age of Conan for 4 years on launch it had a ton of potential the game developers ran that into the ground a long long time ago. FF14 has its flaws but probably the best crafting system I seen. GW2 the pvp is fun everything else is so subpar, the leveling was great tons of quest/events to do it didnt make you feel like your grinding also GW2 pvp/wvw they took the idea off of DAOC. Mortal online has the best concept in a mmo but it was poorly executed reminds me of tes you choose your skills and your not forced into a cookie cuter class system you also create your own adventure. Im already pumped for teso but I like to see some more details on it Im pretty sure that it will annihilate every other mmo

@brightly Oooooh the "casuals" ad hominim attack. How original. Sure you want to leave it at that? You could also toss in some "elitest" references, maybe a few "hipster" ones too. The more pointless, non-rational arguments you can use the better. I don't care how ridiculously low the point is that you are refuting, using those cheap word tricks to strawman your opponent or card-stack him only makes you look like you actually have nothing to say. Say something worth saying or don't; don't insult people and call it an "argument."

Love some of the reactions on here. If I had to say one thing I hated about MMOs, it's the amount of information some companies release when their games won't be done for a year or more. Thus, people have time to let their expectations, doubts, theories, and opinions fester. Then again, sometimes the information is a good thing, especially when it relates not to gameplay features, but to the vision of the game and some of the concerns fans might have. For example, all a guy like DamarStiehl below has to do is read ONE article by Lawrence Schick, ZeniMax's Loremaster, and he'd know how silly he sounds regarding the future of TES. Either he doesn't care enough or he is firmly convinced that he's right, in which case he won't be persuaded by anything. As far as the gameplay is concerned, I'm not even going to comment until we actually get in the Beta (and even then, my thoughts will be my own because there's an NDA). DamarStiehl was probably accurate in the "Collect 50 boar testicles" part, though I imagine there will be overarching questlines with good story that make those "quests" seem like the tasks of REAL quests in single-player RPGs. Yes, even in TES, a "quest" is nothing more than a series of objectives you have to complete. What makes a quest memorable (or forgettable) is the story attached. I think combat will be more GW2-like, though we have to wait and see how responsive it actually is, and I don't think there will be a huge focus on gear progression (in terms of stats; you can still have aesthetic gear progression, like GW2 pre-Fractals). Basically, while Daedric armor would still be better than Ebony, the difference could be minor enough to allow a level playing field in combat, not just in PvP, but also when facing a big, mean boss. I'd be truly surprised if we got the levels of mandatory gear discrimination present in a game like WoW. Anyways, keep talking about the game, or don't, it won't change the fact that it's going to be released, that many people are excited about it, and that even hermit TES fans who laugh at the idea of an MMO may be persuaded to try it.
