It isn't developed by Bethesda, but it is a Bethesda project... So it will still be a drain on Bethesda resources.
And I don't need to be the voice of doom. Look at the budding flamewar a few posts below. Casuals?.. Theorycrafting?.. Really? That right there is the voice of doom... not me... People used to have religious debates over TES lore, now people will be having debates on what build allows you to squeeze out that all-important 3% extra DPS so that the top guild takes you on their millionth T1/T2/T3/T4/T5... raid...
And I'm no GW2 fanboi either. It's a decent pastime but it sure has its issues and ANET is entirely too fond of Ye Olde Nerfbat. But you do have to acknowledge that they broke some serious new ground with regards to many aspects of gameplay, combat not being the least... I, for one, could not possibly go back to the "u whack me, I whack u" style of traditional MMOs. I just don't think that a company new to the MMO market could produce something that is equally innovative.
Honestly, I wouldn't give two shits about a TES MMO if only it didn't mean the end of single-player TES. I know I'd never play it, but if it's someone else's cup of tea, good for them. Unfortunately, if Elder Scrolls Online materializes, it means the end of single-player TES. Either TES Online is successful and all future efforts go into improving it (instead of developing TES6), or TES Online flops and takes the whole franchise with it.

@DamarStiehl; I really don't know why you are pressing this matter... Yes, The Elder Scrolls Online is released by Bethesda Softworks, but it is still being developed by ZeniMax Online Studios, which is not a child company of Bethesda Softworks, but a child company of ZeniMax Media Inc. , a company with a lot of money, and a company who knows that they can still cash out on the singleplayer series even after the MMO has been released. But why didn't Warcraft continue when Blizzard made World of Warcraft, you might ask. Well, because Blizzard made it, not another company, and they wanted to focus on the MMO. Bethesda Game Studios can't focus on the MMO, because they do not have a MMO to focus on.
ZOS as a company might be new to the MMO market, but ZOS as a developer is VERY familiar with the MMO market.
Fans of the Elder Scrolls lore won't just change just because there is a TES MMO, just like fans of the Warcraft lore didn't change when WoW was released. Those who discuss lore now, will continue to discuss lore, just like the Warcraft lore-fans, just like every other lore-fans.
tl:dr, ESO is not the end of TES, Bethesda have already confirmed that.

ROTFL at the doomsday emo posts about TES online vs TES single player. Just like the phrase "PC is dieing" coined back in the 90s. Yeah, PC gaming died alright.
Skyrim is Steam's fastest selling game in their history. Over 1 year later it is still in the top 20 games sold (despite it still being $59.99 US). Don't be a fool into thinking Bethesda is walking away from that money.

Honestly, I had my doubts about the MMO but watching the developers diary it looks promising, but to be fair so did Star Wars The Old Republic. But the truth of it is MMOs nowadays are a hit and miss some are successful but a majority fail and just go Free to Play. But it doesn't mean it was a total loss theres always people who enjoyed it and just because the masses didn't there is still a small group who did and if Bethseda doesn't win big with this it won't be the end for them or the series. Probably just have to wait another 4 to 6 years for another RPG Elder Scrolls game. Morrowind came out in 2002, Oblivion 2006, and Skyrim 2011.

I don't know why people condemn something they have never even tried yet or just assume it will go badly based on past experiences.
I've Beta Tested and/or played a lot of MMOs some good and some so bad they were not worth the money spent to make them but that doesn't mean I'm going to write off ESO based on those negative experiences with MMOs I prefer to made such decisions AFTER I have experienced the game first hand.

I don't really think they will select me, but I signed-up anyway. I just hope fighting won't be just smashing buttons like in almost all MMORPG but something alike skyrim's combat style, but what I saw in release videos didn't give me much hope.

I tried signing up twice, but I got 404 errors both times when I hit submit. Oh well.
