Can't talk to some NPC's

Hello,

I am having issues with my Skyrim NPC's becuase I can't talk to some of them (for example: Balgruuf, Ilisef, Proventus Avenicci and many generic NPC's)

Most NPC's seem to work but for those I cannot talk with the option to press "E" doesnt even appear, and when I am standing next to somebody sleeping like Proventus Avenicci (I am a vampire) I dont get to chosse between feed or Talk but to choose between feed or "activate". However when I press Activate nothing happenes. Though pickpocketing always works talking does not.

I uninstalled all my mods (that took a while) but still no success. . .

I suspect my savefile must be corrupted somehow since I created a new one (for testing) and I didnt had any problems.

Could it be that my savefile still has some data of mods in them but I dont have the mods anymore?

and If so do you guys have some sort of tool to fix that?

would be great :)

I hope my english wasnt too bad, you understoof all and thank you for helping me out :)

regards Aaron aka LightLink

Have you tried archive invalidation already? "Verify integrity of game cache" in tab local files in the properties of Skyrim in steam, it will download some stuff, but since you've uninstalled mods already, it shouldn't interfere with those. Good luck!

No matter what you do, there all always some things that are retained in the save file, after uninstalling a mod (specially script references). The best thing I was able to do to solve similar issues (quests not being able to get completed), was:

1. disable all your mods

2. open up the game and load the save you want to "restore". I would advise it to also wait a couple of minutes, and do nothing, because sometimes, when scripts and objects are missing, the game seems to want to "replace" those with something else. I had a mod, that whenever I disabled it, I would always fail a quest, added one nirnroot and the the soul capture enchant on my weapon would constantly fire on its own and capture souls, even when not hiting anything.

3. Make a new save and quit the game.

4. Launch the game again and load the save you did previously.

5. Just to make sure, save it again, and quit the game again and reload.

From this point, you can also start enabling addons that you see fit. This was the fastest and best method I found until today to clean as much as possible. I once tried a fairly complex method described in some wiki like page, and not only it didn't solved my problem, but it took waaaay to long.

Hope this works for you.

I usually save exit and reload. if that does not work regress down my save files list to one with full functions. Currently, my play has lost a large section of successful questing Player inventory & companions. It's a save game bug associated with escaping from the Thalmor Embassy and Party. when this is run in conjunction with Mages Colleges Quests. happen in a number of play throughs and players its more prevalent if your player has finished the Civil War Quests.

Persist, Skyrim like its TES predecessors as many problems perpetuated by an aging GameBryo engine. Steam does not help. Have you tried playing off line, and downloading the Steam cached files before going off line. Suggest you only do this if you have an unlimited ISP account. My radio link has cost me several $100's to keep Skyrim up to date since its release. Also back up, its far easier to restore you Back Up Files, than to go through the pain of re-installing Skyrim from scratch.

Cheers
