if what you want to do is to save him or having him as a companion, is very simple disable the jail with the console comand: disable.
then he´s free. with companion share and recruit , recruit him and well you will have him as a companion

Probably. I was all like "NOOOO, WHAT AM I GOING TO TELL YOUR WIFE AND CHILDREN?!"

He doesn't have one... hahahaha. =D

Yeah. I may a cruel and heartless male without a father, but Menien Goneld didn't deserve that. He looked far too deperate and middle-aged to be stuck in a sanctum of torture and pain.

Also, how would he fall out the bottom if the cage from the Tournament of Ten Bloods or the cage from the Forbidden Grotto took the place of the current one? They open to the side, and as I already said, the cage he's stuck in rests on a very solid glass-ish platform. He'd just, y'know, walk out of the cage and start following the player. Plus, since he's technically only useful for one thing in the main quest in the Vanilla game, his scripting and AI are perfectly clean slates for a prospective companion or later soldier at one of the major forays. Perhaps he would volunteer to accompany the player into the depths of Sancre Tor, or Miscarcand, or perhaps serve as a field commander in the Battle of Bruma under Martin? The possibilities are many...

Actually, if it's on a platform, the cage would have to be raised for him to get out. =D. I don't think they go that way. They might, though.

Anyone want me to write up anything for Menien's storyline? And will he have a wife... in... Kvatch? She can live in a tent. And be patched into Kvatch Rebuilt for those who use it.

Errr...Vincent, I really don't think you get what I'm saying about this cage thing. THE CAGE I SPEAK OF DOES NOT OPEN FROM THE BOTTOM. It opens by having one of the sides swing open downward. Just had to get that out, since apparently I'm not being very clear here. o_O

The one with Menien in it? I know the ones from Camoran's Paradise (Is that the Forbidden Grotto? I couldn't remember) and a few others open from the side. Are you saying that Menien's cage opens from the side? I didn't think it did, but if it does, then I void and retract all my previous statements that contradict anything.

He sometimes glitches and appears in random places, screaming about oblivion and cowering at nothing. You could hope for that.

It is possible to remove Menien from his cage by casting a command spell on him and leaving the room. It may take several attempts, but eventually, when you enter the tower, he will be right outside of his cage, cowering as if nothing's changed.

I was actually able to get him out of the cage and out of the Oblivion Gate, he ran back to the entrance and went out of the Oblivon and went in front Of Kvatch's Main Gate, while playing on the Xbox 360, but boy, was it hard.
