How would I go about learning enchantments that aren't from Requiem? I have a mod that grants a new type of weapon to the game with a special visual enchantment effect to go with it. Normally, you would just disenchant one of the weapons to gain the enchantment so you can smith your own, but the weapon doesn't show up in the disenchant list in Requiem.

If the weapon cannot be disenchanted, you can't learn the enchantment. It doesn't matter whether the weapon comes from Requiem or another mod.

Ah, okay, thanks for that. It turns out that of all the weapons granted by the mod, the one I happened to have was the only one that couldn't be disenchanted. All sorted out now.

Are you a member of the Imperial army or do you have a mod that changes the civil war? If so, that could be the cause. If not, try this:
- be out of combat
- equipping the imperial armor again
- go the 1st/3rd person view
- wait 5 seconds
- unequip the armor
- go the 1st/3rd person view
- wait 5 seconds

So, I am LOVING Requiem. The sheer difficulty aggravates the hell out of me sometimes, but I'm a bit of a gaming masochist so that's brilliant.
Problem is, I cant GET anywhere. I only barely survived Helgen, and had to sneak past (then sprint away from) the bear at the end to manage. Then I kept getting taken out by bandits on the way to Bleakfalls Barrow, but thats my fault more than the sheer difficuly; I'm so used to playing with either "he who hits first wins" or a straight up slug match that the block-avoid-and-evade tactics of Requiem are taking some getting used to.
My real problem came after I got INTO the barrow. That friggin giant spider. Mind you, I'm fresh out of Helgen, I think I JUST hit level three. I'm running a traditional orc build: heavy armor, two handed weapon, blacksmithing as my crafting skill, with a bit of archery and block to help round things out. And I just cant kill the friggin spider ><

So, firstly and obviously, can anyone give me tips about dealing with the spider? And I'm sure I'll need help against the draugr boss, too.
Secondly, is two-handed+heavy armor even viable in Requiem? I know blocking and/or evading are much more important now, and between my choice of weapon and the weight of my armor I'm not as good at either, but can I swing it? Or am I gonna be forced to go with a different route?
Third, if I do need to change combat styles, what do you recommend? I wanna stay melee with a bow or (ideally) crossbow as backup.

Also, how can I train up my skills without risking life and limb? I got Training Dummies and Targets (http://www.nexusmods...im/mods/23698/?) for working up my weapon skills. It takes half an hour (real time) to gain a single skill level but it works and it gives me an excuse to stay in Whiterun for more than 5 minutes. But how do I get my armor and block skills up? I figured I could punch someone in the face, let them wail on me then yield before they killed me but no such luck.

Hello, does anyone have a clue how to open the chest in Ygol's barrow? It seems to be sealed by some kind of magic.

While its possible to complete early, Bleakfalls is not meant to be a starter dungeon in Requiem, level up and come back later. As for Helgen Hadvar/Ralof should have easily carried you through, you are not a hero early on in Requiem which in part is what makes it so great.

Two handed + heavy is very viable but it needs a little bit of investment before it shines. With some decent heavy armor you will fairly early shrug of attacks from most "normal" enemies. You will struggle with mages and such being so slow to catch then though, you can kill those easily with crosssbows. Lategame, with good magic resistance and/or good shouts, you will be very powerful against pretty much everything.

You can level up your armor versus mudcrabs if you don't feel that is too demeaning. Otherwise bandits and bandit camps are the preferred option early. Personally I like taking some alchemy perks early, leveling that up and then investing the new perks into combat related skills. This also can earn you a bunch of money you can spend on trainers for example.

Early it might also be useful to not wear a full suit of heavy armor but combine it with lighter stuff. This might even allow you to cast some spells in combat (for easymode try conjuration).

Thanks for the tips! Yeah, I found out quick that levels dont count for as much as they did in vanilla, and thats taken some getting used to. After a buttload of training using the aforementioned training dummies mod and a mudcrab in the sewers of Whiterun (which I have adopted as Muddy the Sparringcrab), I was able to finally clear out the bandit camp at Halted Stream, and Whiteriver Camp, as a bonus. There was a shock-happy mage that gave me a lot of trouble, but once I picked up the second Heavy perk and bullrushed her onto her butt she was an easy kill. This gave me access to plenty of iron for smithing. There's also a cave-camp-thing right under Whiterun's southern wall I'm looking to clear out for use as a home base.

As for Ralof doing the dirty work for, I just didnt like the feel of it. I knew he was a lot stronger than I was, so I let him take the front lines, but I still wanted to do my part. I feel the same with Conjuration; I know it'll make my job easier, I just dont like the feel of letting summoned beasties do the killing for me. Not for this character anyway. Would Restoration or Alteration be good alternatives?

I've also figured out that lockpicking is almost a requirement if I wanna get as much loot as possible. I've gotten lucky and been able to find or craft a backpack, bandolier, belt pouch etc, so carrying all the loot is less of a problem, and between an amulet I scavenged off a dead pilgrim and the blessings I can get at the local temple making decent money isnt too hard either. On lockpicking, how does the Animate Lockpick spell work? Does it basically unlock the target automatically or just make the task easier?

I'm level six right now, thinking of running Bleakfalls at 10. Any advice for dropping that first dragon in melee afterwards?

Last question: does Requiem alter the kill moves at all? I'm using Dance of Death to give more variety and increase the chances of kill moves happening and havnt been able to get a single one (though several have been used on me)

I feel the same way about conjuration after having tried it for a fair bit on an an earlier char. I prefer a more paladinesque type char so I used both restoration and alteration.

Unless you want to rely on alchemy I think at least some restoration is almost mandatory. Aside from healing the resist poison buff is super useful. Offensively restoration can eventually be one of the strongest weapons even against the most powerful undead, (mind that spellcosts can become quite prohibitive in late game heavy armor).

Alteration is less needed in the beginning but mid to lategame you need to be able to defend yourself against vampires and mages and such, and the alteration passives become very nice to have if your plan is to take the punishment yourself. Although requiem is flexible enough that you can also succeed against magic with stealth, ranged, decoys (summons), alchemy, shouts, enchantment, illusion, atronach stone etc. Some might not be in character and you might want to go the classic way to have magic and elemental resistance by getting a good shield.

I like lockpicking, it doesn,t take too many perks, and you will recoup them more or less. Some locks can also be bashed. I am not sure about the animate spell, but I think you need high alteration for it to work on the highest level locks.

At level 10 you should be able to reach the final chamber of Bleakfalls without much trouble but the final battle might still be a challenge (still easily doable with some hit and run tactics and/or a bunch of potions. The reason is Bleakfalls is so hard in Requiem is that dragons are no joke, you will be useless against the dragon. But Irileth will kill it eventually if you hide. To be honest, if you are not interested in unlocking shouts I would clear out other Draugr ruins or maybe forsworn in the teen levels instead of Bleakfalls.

There are killmoves still, I am not sure how they are altered though.

A last tip, have you tried making food? I really like the stamina restoring one (vegetable soup I think it is), those buffs last for 2 hours.

PS, you are aware that 1.8 is coming very soon and will make your savegames obsolete? So go crazy testing stuff and your next run will start a lot smoother.
