Music won't play -or- only plays Dragon combat music

had a look at the list we use about 70% of th same mods. like skyre, immersive armors, dynavision, skytest, the unoffical fixes to name the main mods.

 

i recently cut and pasted the sounds.bsa onto the desktop and ran the game cache thing to redownload it and see if it was this that had been corrupted. no dice.

then i started a new game and played up to the first mine - all music was playing with no issue. so it must be something in the current save that is effecting things.

 

i found a fix that may work for you but its a bit tedious.

 

basically open the console and type 'removemusic muscombatcivilwar' and that stops taht music from playing if it is the one that got stuck. if that doesnt work you have to type 'help mus'

to get all of the other music files and then go through the list and remove all of them. music will only play with the console closed so close it every couple of entries to see if its fixed.

this didnt work for me but it might for you.

 

next im gonna trawl through old saves on this char to see if the music plays for one of them.

I ran that code for pretty much any and all combat music before posting here. I also ran a different save, sound worked fine then; however, I don't have any previous saves for this current character that I can revert to. In the meantime, I'm using the Sound Propagation mod again so that it's not so deathly silent in-game.

It doesn't, but it's better to have more ambient sound than having zero music. Still wondering what's going on with my game though, hate getting hopeful when I hear music during the loading screen only to end in utter silence...

Inserting my latest papyrus log here. For the longest time I've noticed this dragonactor script entry. I was wondering if anyone thinks it might have something to do with what's going on, considering that the only music I do hear is the dragon combat music.

@Styger,

Had a look at my logs and i dont have that script in there at all. i have some weird 'serana bite me' script that the game keeps searching for. Just out of interest have you changed the timescale at all? i have mine at 6 and just wondering if maybe that has had a weird effect.

im at a loss now tho cant seem to fathom this out - its the first skyrim issue i havent been able to fix. i tried a skyrim save cleaner that didnt work, next i am going to use the no boring sleep wait menu and wait 34 days to see if resets anything. i even gave scripts more time to load incase that was the issue.

i hate it when a little bit of music plays when loading, just as i am getting used to just hearing the ambient sounds, the game decides to remind me how much better it sounded with music aswell.

Okay, so I "fixed" the music bug. I ran all of the removemusic commands, alt-tabbed out of the game, then back in to begin the Dragon combat music. I exited Whiterun as it played, and let it finished. The regular music began playing, much to my amazement, beyond the first 10 seconds. Several dungeon crawls later, it's still playing strong. What happened? The f*#@ if I know. But that's what I did and it's all good now. Oh, also uninstalled the Sound Propagation mod... just for good measure.

Hi, had the exact same problem and I have good news and bad news. The bad news is that this happens due to a corrupted save and there is no fix (to my knowing) besides loading a previous save. The good news is that I have found the exact mod and moment when this happens. It's the mod Fight against Thalmor IV - Dragonmourn Inn and it happens somewhere half-through the mine.

I incurred the same issue, but the music bug appeared about a few days after I did that mission. I'm probably going to have to go through the removemusic commands though

to find a fix.

Found it, for those with this problem, type:

removemusic MUSCombatBoss

removemusic MUSCombatChargen

 

The latter isn't exactly necessary it seems, but do it for precaution. I don't know if doing it once is a surefire thing, but its a temporary fix.

NOTE: Make sure you alt-tab to start the combat music. You'll know you did it right when you hear the music fade shortly after typing in these commands.

 

Hopefully, MadFrenchie (Mod author of Fight the Thalmor Part 4 - South Dragon Bridge) Will fix the issue in his mod soon.
