In this article I wish to tell you guys a story. THE story, of the dwemer and their harsh history(related to our mod). It all began way back in the times when the dwemer ruled the lands of skyrim. Of course there were other elves, snow elves being a really big race in existence back then. The the dwemer were a known race for their love of logic and knowledge, they hated using magic and preferred the use of mechanics; hence the big dwarven automatons we have all met in dwarven ruins. As time passed, the dwemer became very powerful especially in the Morrowind area. On the other side, the snow elves became a race to be feared as well as they only seemed to fear the dwemer and any other race entering their territory would not be looked upon nicely. The nordic race came from the frozen continent of Atmora, Ysgramor took a few men and fled the civil war that plagued his people. The sailed south looking for a new hope and a start, finding Skyrim. Of course they were not the first immigrants of Atmora, they have found more settlements of the nords; but they managed to settle around Skyrim, although completely hated by the Snow elves and they felt invaded. Due to the fact that the elves were more superior, they looked upon the nords as a race in the brink of extinction and not capable of much. But as time grew, they noticed that although this race lived shorter than the elves they multiplied 3 times faster than the snow elves. These elves then took drastic measure to keep their land clean of such a "useless" race, otherwise others around Tamriel would lose fear of the snow elves. It is said that night is longest night for any norderer as they were hunted down like animals and butchered simply to keep order for the snow elves. Ysgramor and his two sons managed to escape this massacre and returned to Atmora, sworn to revenge his people. He came back with an army of 500 men, not a great number and I am sure they were outnumbered. These were known as the companions, sworn to eliminate every snow elf out of skyrim they came back and took revenge. The snow elves lost their fighting spirit when their Prince died at the hand of a twelve year old girl, the Battle of Moesring. Every snow elf fled as quickly as they could because the nords were not in reason to negotiate with them any longer. This is one of the main events of the Late First Era. The last of the snow elves took refuge with their brothers, the dwemer; they sworn to give them protection, but in order to survive they had to eat toxic plants. These plants took away their sense of sight and gradually devolved them into what we know as the Falmer. The dwemer enslaved this poor race in their weakest times. Since the dwemer lived in morrowind, they did not have much quarry with the norderers; they certainly had some relations with the Dark Elves (Dunmer, Chimer). The dwemer found an ancient artifact, it is said that it was powerful enough to destroy whole worlds and create them. The Heart of Lorkhan, they used it to create a machinery that even the gods themselves feared, Folk Lores said that this "machinery" was a god itself. The dwemer seemed to exceed themselves this time, but their intentions made this new god very dangerous. They seeked immortality, the Dunmer knew this was dangerous to every settler of Tamriel and beyond because the dwemer were a vicious race always looking out for themselves and nobody else. This started the Battle of Red Mountain, one of the greatest battles in dwemer history and certainly the most mysterious in the Elder Scrolls. The dwemer used this artifact but their knowledge has failed them and instead of immortality they created a new land. With most of their army fallen at the swords of the dunmer, they took refuge upon this land but not everybody could get through the portal quick enough to escape the slaughter of the dunmer. Yogstrad stood up for his people, wielding his Dragonshield and his scimitar only; prayed for strength from every being possible, every god and daedra lord ignored his prayers but one. Mehrunes Dagon, at the exchange of his very own soul he gave him the strength of a thousand men and by him self he held back the big army of the Dunmer. Now the dwemer live happily on the Island of Tjiamat, nobody has reached it by boat, yet. The dwemer also had with them the last few slaves of the snow elves. But as time passed so did their hatred, the snow elves were released and cured of their "monstrosity". The dwemer have changed their ways over the four eras, with not connection to their Motherland whatsoever. There was one last way to reach this island. The thalmor have always looked for it, but they did not even know what they were looking for.
Tjiamat Island was fairly small yet filled with lots of creatures never seen before in skyrim, beautiful landscape and all by themselves; the dwemer lived in peace for four eras with nobody else to hate. Throughout these four eras the dwemer have acted upon their mistakes, eight dwemer were chosen by the gods and gifted for their actions. Each dwemer received the blessing of immortality and a power of their own, one last dwemer was missing. The last dwemer was Yogstrad, the eight divines lose their immortality if they leave the divines palace where an ancient crystal lies. The snow elves departed from the dwemer as they did not felt welcome in the Tyrek City or the villages around, despite the dwemer helping them and living happily with them. They took refuge under the Great Mountain, (underground again.) and they became masters of the night, much like the Khaajit but their senses were much more evoled and the gods gave them, also a blessing; the blessing allowed the snow elves to receive invisibility under the light of the moon. Over the years they developed the deadliest weapons yet, in fear they would have to use them. They did not devolve into blind beings because they would have course reach the surface and trade, hunt or just take a walk on the island.
When the thalmor reached the beach, nobody knew because nobody expected somebody to ever find this island. The thalmor knew of the history of the dwemer and seeked to destroy them, their arcane magic is so powerful, the dwemer would not last to fight them alone. Riders of the Horizon, 100 dwemer stood to fight for their people whilst they worked on new master weapons.

The rest of the lore is upon you to write.

(I wrote this at the top of my head, sorry for grammar mistakes or lore issues; lore is not set in stone, we may have changed it a tiny bit at the Battle of Red Mountain)

In response to post #7912778.

I love the story, read the entire thing and read it again to see if anything didn't seem right. But if the Thalmor really did find the Dwemer, would they not rather ally with them with their mundane and different power from the Thalmor which power that they do not have? the Thalmor seeks to destroy man and they care for the mer, and the Dwemer seems to be the perfect and unholy alliance vs man kind.

In response to post #7912778. #7938553 is also a reply to the same post.

Hmm, good point there but at first sight (this is what happens in story line, do not worry hardly a spoiler): the thalmor see the first few dwemer as weak and a scouting group kill a whole village and burn it to the ground. After that, the king himself marches up to the captain of the current camp located on the beach and kills him (waging war to any hostile trespassers); hearing this the thalmor embassy feels threatened and as foolish as they are they begin a war. I believe most exciting war yet. I mean thalmor took down imperial tower (built by ayleids, elves). The overall point of this story is magic vs technology and the winner of the war is based on how the player interacts with the storyline.

In response to post #8184824.

Yikes, a question I ask myself too. Beta comes when all locations/NPCs and Items are fully added in, beta will be quest scripting as far as I am aware.
