When I recruit him he goes into combat stance and keeps running at some invisible enemy forever (he'll stand in one location or move around an area with his face in a combat sneer and his bow out). Also when you try and dismiss him he'll keep following you even if you do the Dismiss (normal) Action in the Tweak Commands bar in the follower menu.

Q: Is there a definitive answer on whether the iNPC addon has issues or not with the non-fmc version of iNPC.
A: There is no definitive answer. I haven't had time to test the patch with all of iNPC. And truth be told, I probably never will.
A definitive answer would require me to play with nothing but AFT and iNPC installed and I would have to cover every quest and NPC that iNPC offers... and that is insane when I have my own addons and projects I want to work on.
From the month of feedback that I have had since releasing the addon, as far as I can tell, AFT + iNPC + Addon (if these were the only 3 mods you had installed) seem like they work pretty well together. Where things start to break is when you have AFT + iNPC + SomeOtherHugeOverhauls. Most likely a large mod that distributes using loose files and not a proper bsa archive.
The other issue is that sometimes NMM doesn't install iNPC correctly because the mod is just so big. There are rather elaborate "safe" ways to install it, but most people are going to simply roll the dice. I suppose at a minimum, installing iNPC manually would be safer than using NMM.
The main issue reported is that some users say they can't dismiss followers. However, AFT's "dismiss but hang out here" always seems to work. The other issue is some users say they can only have 2 iNPC followers. That sucks... but it is not a game breaker.
So right now I would say it depends on how heavily you have modded your game. iNPC is huge. Probably the largest mod here at the nexus. And because of its shear size, it is going to have compatibility issues with other mods. The more mods you use with it, the higher the probability of those issues.

Then try : Tweak Command Power -> Tools -> Diagnostics -> Validate
Tell me if any issues are reported.
Then when you are in combat, try:
Tweak Command Power -> Tools -> Diagnostics -> NPCs
This will tell you each NPC's AI package. Tell me what Brakh's AI package is reporting. Sometimes the name of the package can reveal a conflicting mod. Most of AFT's packages start with "Tweak".

Dismiss but hang out here, works fine. If you need a INPC follower to leave your party and go home, use Alas it's time to part ways, in the first dialogue section you receive when talking to an recruited INPC follower. This option works perfectly to dismiss a follower and send them home.

After a while of testing AFT's ADDON for the INPC's mod, I can report that [The addon is] a nearly perfect patch.
I am using, AFT 1.66, latest Vilja, Cerwiden, various other followers, Convenient Horses, and the main INPC's file. I have recruited and dismissed standard, and super followers.
The only issue i have found is the AFT main dismiss command would sometimes not work, but the
"Alas it's time to part ways"
or the
"Dismiss but hang out here"
functions work fine.
So i would suggest users just ignore the main dismiss command in AFT when using an INPC follower.
I have had Vilja, Amalee, Jade, Brakh, Goth and Cerwiden in my party, with no issues. So the reported problem concerning not being able to recruit more than 2 INPC followers is not due to AFT's ADDON patch. It is either a load order issue or a corrupt install.
INPC's is a huge mod, so i would recommend to check an unpacked version, against your installed files. All of AFT's functions work correctly, and outfit management has worked ultra fast, and smooth on all followers. AFT 1.66 is the most stable, quickest version so far. Outfit change when moving into another location is really crisp, earlier versions of AFT seemed to sometimes suffer from lag when equipping different outfits.
When introducing a INPC follower to Cerwiden, they may both just stand still, take the INPC's followers weapon away, then give it back. This will refresh them. Cerwiden will now heal them in combat, and will have the INPC follower added to her friend list. AFT 1.66 is such an improvement that i have been able to increase my AF, with no problems. Also have added the Monster mod, to give my followers more encounters, and have had some very satisfying battles.
All of my followers have fought correctly, and weapon change has been flawless. AFT's relax function works excellently on my INPC followers, and idle chatter or follower keeps distance does not hinder them. Though conversations can get a bit overwhelming, when everyone talks at once!
I set Cerwiden to use relax option, as in the past this has messed up her Friendship quest, and tested to see if it would complete. She wandered around, used equipment, and after a few days her Friendship quest completed. It does take a while, but now it works.
The only flaw is the make camp option, seems to take forever, and hardly ever sets up correctly.

I've had Anum-La for awhile now, but just in the last two hours or so of playtime, I can no longer use the trading option with her. (This is the vanilla trading line and not "Open your backpack"--the one that allows you to swap outfits.) I choose it in dialogue, and she responds normally, but the trade menu never appears; I just hang out in the dialogue menu. I've also tried editing her outfits through the Tweak Options branch, and that lets me give and take items, but she won't equip them.
I haven't updated either mod recently (both are the latest versions anyway), nor anything that would conceivably alter this such as SkyUI. Or, actually, anything period. It's vanilla ebony that I'm trying to give her, so this isn't introduced by third-party items.
Trade options still work perfectly with Zora, Vilja, and Dagri'Lon, my other pals right now. Any ideas?

I'm planning on using AFT + iNPCs + Convenient Horses + several other game overhauls. I read there could be problems when using a mod with loose files in NNM. But in fact, I'm not using NNM for that reason, I use Mod Organizer instead. I have installed many mods with loose files through Mod Organizer. But my Skyrim/Data folder stays pristine with Mod Organizer. There are no scripts/meshes/textures/... added directly to that folder. Mod Organizer makes a "virtual" directory for them without ever changing anything in the original Skyrim/Data folder. Will I be able to use AFT + AFT iNPCs + nonFMC iNPCs in that case?
