Cannot leave Solstheim, causes "infinite load" screen

I recently completed the Dragonborn DLC quest "Cleansing the Stones," where Miraak shows up and steals the soul from the dragon I killed.

 

After that, I wanted to go back to Skyrim to find a Briarheart for Neloth, and I ran into the "infinite load screen" problem when I tried to fast travel from the map.  I can travel within Solstheim, but the same problem happened when I tried to board the ship at Raven Rock and pay the guy to sail me back to Skyrim.

 

Interestingly, I can use the console command "coc WhiterunBreezehome" to teleport myself to my house in Whiterun, but when I tried to use the door to go outside...infinite load screen.

 

The problem is always reproducible.

 

I'm running the most recent Skyrim patch with all 3 DLCs plus the Hi-Res Texture pack, along with the latest Unofficial patches for each, SkyUI, and a couple minor mods (see below).

 

My system is a Core i5-3570 with 16GB RAM running 64-bit Windows 7 Enterprise.  Video is an eVGA GeForce GTX660 w/2GB video RAM.

Any thoughts on tracking down the culprit?  I'd really like to get the hell outta Solstheim for a little bit!

I too had that problem; I solved it, well not really a solution, but a workaround that was effective, by opening the console and typing "coc whiterunbreezehome", saving in Breezehome, exiting to Whiterun, then fast traveling to wherever you were going to go, or perhaps back to Windhelm.

Not the best solution, but at least I was able to continue the game.

With that computer, a small mod list, and a very clean log, there isn't much that should go wrong. Try running with ugrids at 5. There have been a lot of warnings about changing it, although some have had success. I think I recall someone saying they were able to run with 7 until they started using DB. Maybe that's the issue. Not sure about that though. Ah, also the changes for the map have been reported to cause problems like you are having. Try reverting to the standard map as a test. Those are the 2 things I would try.

OK, so I teleported to Breezehome using coc and saved the game.  Attempting to exit the house into Whiterun still results in an infinite loading screen, though interestingly only the smoke appeared.  There was no 3D model nor text as usually appears during load delays.

I wondered if my having a couple dead thralls might be causing the problem, so I tried killing them before leaving Solstheim...no dice, problem still exists.

Well, I've "fixed" it, but I have no idea how or why...so I'd still like to hear from you guys on how to go about tracing the root cause of these sorts of bugs.

 

Basically, I did what 352 suggested and teleported to Breezehome using coc, then saved the game.  It hung as before when trying to go outside, so I reloaded the new save...then I teleported to Vldindrel Hall in Markarth and saved the game there.

 

When I exited the house, the world loaded just fine.  I then used the map to fast-travel to Solstheim and it worked fine...so I paid the captain to sail me back to Skyrim and that worked as well.

 

I still don't see anything in Papyrus that points to an obvious culprit:

Had exactly the same issue, could travel anywhere on Solstheim just fine, but could not travel back to skyrim. As I don't own any homes I used "coc riftenbeeandbarb" first, but got infinite load screen when trying to enter Riften. Then I used "coc solitudewinkingskeever", and everything solved itself for no appearent reason. Not going back to Solstheim anytime soon, that's for sure.

I am posting here as this looks like the most recent instance of this topic. I tried several combinations of coc and fast travel but in the end I was able to reduce the "fix" to the following:

1. Load a Skyrim mainland save
2. Load your Raven Rock docks save
3. Travel to Skyrim without infinite loading screen

I have several mods and hd textures all over my data folder by the way. I hope this helps other desperate players.

I would coc qasmoke then save then coc riverwood
