Awakening - Lacks Continuity

I'm really disappointed in the lack of continuity in Awakening's story. After playing ME1 and ME2 which has a ton of story elements that connect, Awakening falls short. Seriously Bioware, why even bother creating such a complex system of choice and growth that, in the end, gets completely thrown by the wayside? I found being able to play my character who made "The ultimate sacrifice", and who's past has been completely erased a total downer. Don't get me wrong, I think the Awakening rocks. I'm just really disappointed by the fact nothing I did in DA:O mattered. I mean, not including a romance is one thing, but not carrying over choices made from one game to the next is another.

Who sided with you at the Landsmeet? Who cares?
Did you Bed Leliana? Does it really matter?
Who did you side with, The Circle or the Templars? .... Please.
Is Connor Dead? I don't remember, I think I have amnesia.

Bioware put story over game-play and this was a dumb move in my opinion. Game play should always come before story (story meaning theirs, gameplay meaning your choices). It makes the game linear. It also takes away my emotional investment. I don't think I'm going to play DA:O again now, seeing as my character's choices in the end will just be wiped away.

What are your thoughts on this subject?

I for one feel like my imported charactor is the same sweet backstabbing rogue she always was. I am not clear on what choices you are referring to exactly, however.
Maybe I haven't played far enough into the story line as yet.

It really cheapens what you've done in Origins. I think they mention one or two things in maybe 30 second conversations (who your king/queen is, pretty much.) Very disappointing.

There aren't many things from Origins that are mentioned, but there are some such as:

-King Alistare
-The Dark Wolf
-Harren and Master Wade
-Oghren

That's pretty bad, doncha think? Master Wade? I'd rather know what happens to Sandal and his dad Bodhan. I'm just saying, you could play Awakening without ever playing DA:O and there will be no difference except a few minor dialogue interactions. Nothing that you did in DA:O carries over. The way Leliana loved my character, you'd think she'd die before ever leaving. At least give me a prologue or something .. shoot even a codex letter from one of my love interests telling me it's over would have been nice. Awakening totally disrespects the choices I made in the original. Not to mention all the new companions are *yawn*, good banter though.

The...Who? LOL sorry, I just couldn't resist. Actually tho, I dont remember any mention of that characer IN Origins. Did they ever show that guy's face?
Yeah, I thought that having to two joyboys there outside the palace to be rather... "jolly". (And that comment makes NO reference at all to our member named Jolly. Please dont think that!)

Hm, thats disappointing tho. I havent finished it yet, and thought that maybe there would be more mention of it. Bioware was going on and on about how your decisions in DAO would affect things. Geeze... looks like that was hot air.

youll get total agreement from me.

i havent finished awakening yet, im still in the city.
but wtf, i was an evil f**ker in dao, i killed everybody that was killable through dialoge.

(i felt really bad for brother genitivi though, he didnt deserve to die like that.)

and now in awakening everybodys hailing me like im a "good" type of hero.
my character would kill and eat youre f**king babies if it brought some gold into her pockets.
she would even kill youre baby for some lowly silver, she dont give a f**k.

i dont know, maybe gamedevelopers take for granted that people play with "good" char, since its always much easier to be the good guy.
but for seasoned rpg players the "evil" char is always the most fun.
i dont know, maybe bioware game developers are not very into rpg?

but now my evil character is the hero, and people are kneeling in front of her, and hailing her like she was f**ing andraste or some s**t.

I don't think they took for granted that fact, I just think they either got lazy or ran out of time.

1) these people are happy that you saved their lives from the blight.
2) They are happy you saved their lives from Renden Howe
3) The common folk are afraid to piss you off, after having lived under Renden Howe. (Notice I said, common folk. Nobles can be a different matter.)
4) They don't know you. They know these stories that are trickling out of Denerim about a hero who saved the world. The "Hero of Ferelden" and those stories are always gonna make you out to be larger than life, regardless of what your character is.

I was disappointed with the lack on continuity but I'm sure that it is not the writers fault more on the time restraints. I was expecting more out of Awakening but that doesn't damper my spirits though. I would rather play an expansion than a half completed sequel. I also hope that the impacts of both Awakening and Origins play a role in the sequel.
