You need a program that can extract .7z files. Can't remember which one it is or if WinRAR can do it. It may be WinACE. Either way this is not a bug report so I'm moving this thread.

Stick to winrar, mainly because is can unzip the majority of compressed files.

Well i had the same problem  . If the files have the notepad icon, then you need an application to use them. I personally use 7-Zip for my RARfiles. Hope this helps

What is stopping GamingSource from restricting uploadable archive files to only RAR and ZIP?

7-ZIP yields a much smaller archive.
Besides, modders don't quite get the point when it comes to filetype restrictions --- if 7-ZIP were forbidden, then they would just upload their mods as a 7-ZIP file enclosed within a ZIP or RAR file, like they do with OMOD files.

I need some help. My 7-Zip v.4.4.2 (the latest available) won't extract any of Growlf's zip files. Weird. I get a message that it is not a supported archive.

Due to a moderator telling me to post it here, I will, so here we go! ^^
[b]FAQ: How to handle files containing the ending zip, rar, 7zip, ace and such
For the reason I frequently find the question how to handle compressed files such as rar, zip, 7zip, ace or others, while I think those are the common, I made up my mind to finally write down a short tutorial for newbes, which an admin might pin up here, so nobody needs to ask all the time.
First you should know that the files you downloaded endling with rar, 7zip, ace, zip [...] are compressed originals of the file you were trying to get.
To get them to work, you have to decompress them, by using a little program like WinRar or 7-zip.
You can download them here:
WinRAR:
http://www.rarlab.com/download.htm
There are versions in serveral languages, which I appreciate the most, just pick yours and download it.
7-zip:
http://www.snapfiles.com/get/7zip.html
Once you downloaded one of those programs, follow the installation instructions given by the auto-installer.
If done, you usually just need to click onto the modfile you downloaded before, and your decompressing program will start automattically, giving you the option to place the files into whatever directory you want.
To place your mod data right, you have to follow the instructions of the contained readme, as neither WinRAR nor 7-zip is responsible for your mods not to work because of wrong placement of its files!
