  1. I like seeing people on two sides of a debate having a friendly, considerate discussion. I like taking winter walks around the streets before sunrise and watching the world slowly lighting up. I like discovering new ways to look at old thoughts. I like working together on meaningful projects with enthusiastic people. I like when a recipe you were unsure about trying turns out just right.
  2. Some things that helped me: Put barriers between distractions and you. If you don't need constant internet, unplug your router. Set up a new user profile on your PC that doesn't have steam or other games installed. Or uninstall all non-work software if you need to. Ask if work will provide you with a work laptop so you don't have any overlap with your personal software. Set up a seperate Chrome/browser account just for work that doesn't have your usual distracting bookmarks on it. Put your phone on silent in another room, and disconnect from the net (ask if your employer could supply you with a work phone for business purposes). Be accountable; get into the habit of sharing the work you've done with your employer daily. Make sure you're clear on the day's tasks before your start, so you don't have periods of indecision where procrastination can seize the wheel. Do your best but don't be hard on yourself if you lapse in concentration/motivation on occasion, it's tough! Just take a breath and get back to productive work till it's time to clock off.Best of luck!

Starship Explorers Starship Explorers fuses the colony-building of Rimworld, the space combat of FTL, and the epic adventures of Star Trek, Star Wars, Stargate, Battlestar, and all those other series with Star in the title. In Starship Explorers you sit in the captain’s chair. Build your ship brick by brick, in any shape or size. Then hire an eclectic crew and cast off into the stars. “Hang on travellers” ..Or at least that's the plan! I'm currently coding the above-mentioned game and would love some feedback as I go. I think this game will be of particular interest to the Nexus community as I'm building in modding from the ground up. You'll be able to create not only your own starships, but new alien races, planets, and items to populate a procedural galaxy. Then share them with others. It's super early stages right now, and I'm kinda terrified of creating something no-one gives a hoot about, hence the very early reveal. Hopefully with feedback at each step I'll have a much better product than if I just locked myself away for 18 months and tried to guesstimate what makes the best Starship experience! I'll be posting screenies here as the game develops. I've got a rudimentary ship-building system that you can download here. It's not much fun at the moment, but it's a small file so if anyone fancies giving it a quick go and letting me know how you get on, that'd be awesome.   8. Recently started playing XCom 2. Absolutely hated it at first - I kept dying and having to restart. Fortunately after googling something along the lines of "why is XCom so s*** ???" I stumbled across a Tips and Tricks thread and have loved it ever since. Can't wait to save enough for the DLC.
  9. It's great you've written a full design document. A few notes: The doc could do with a bit of a grammar and formatting check. Better spacing and punctuation, underlined or bold subheadings. Maybe take a look at some of these example documents from real games (they're in a list at the bottom of the article). For example, your first paragraph, which should hook the reader and convince them of your professionalism, is a long confusing sentence: What is "anti-care bear"? You'll get a better response if you can prove your credentials as game devs too. Either posting previous work, or including greybox screenshots or concept art of your idea. Even better would be a greybox or video mock-up to demonstrate your gameplay. At the very least your want diagrams and pictures in your document to show how the mechanics work. It's nearly impossible to imagine how a game will play from reading lengthy paragraphs - much better to show as well as tell. If you're interested, this is a great game design book that explains how to make design documents that are convincing to investors. It's obvious you've put a lot of thought into your design so good luck!
  10. It would be fairly simple (in AAA game dev terms) for a studio to do. Loads of games use procedural content (Minecraft, No Man's Sky, etc..). In fact procedural content is often faster and easier than making an entire world by hand which is why indie devs tend to use it a lot. Even Bethesda use procedural tech to a limited degree - their ambient quest system for example, or the system that determines some NPC's loot. The problem with Daggerfall is it would be an entirely different type of game, using a pipeline that Beth doesn't currently have in place. I'm sure if there was an indisputably huge call for a remake, Zenimax would put a team on it, but it's unlikely Bethesda Game Studios would be involved.

It's just a tester, to see if I could get a look that matches Chris' concept before committing to several larger segments. This is where we're at right now. This is a vid from December, just before I switched projects to focus on my game funding trailer. Hopefully we'll see this space slowly but surely evolve into a playable experience over the next few months.
  14. Thanks for the support guys, it means so much that you've all taken such an interest in the project. As such I feel obliged to let you know the situation as it stands. I've just finished uni and have been offered funding to make my own videogame, which is a huge deal for me. That funding won't be available for about 5 months, so I have to find work in the meantime and it's proving to be a pain in the rear end. *wistfully remembers bygone days you could mod for hours after school* Anyway long story short, I'm super busy and a little under pressure right now, BUT I really really want to finish this mod at some point as so many talented people have put in such hard work so far. Vulon with his soundtrack, Zakia, Jane and Chris with their concepts and armours, and all of you who have liked, followed, commented and otherwise shown support for the project, a massive thanks to you all. I can't let this die but I'm bogged down with life stuff right now. So I'm going to make a concerted effort from today to do at least a small bit every weekend until I reach a more stable point in life and am able to dedicate more time here. Thanks again for everyone's continuing patience and belief in the project, you guys rock :smile:
