  1. None of you have addressed the issue I have brought up. @micalov I never said that anyone was banned or kicked. I do not see the relevancy of your reply. @Vagrant0 You said: "The reason why the rule exists is because there is no way to know what any foreign language content is unless you know the language or rely on unreliable automatic translations." This alone is not enough of a reason to ban all foreign media. Besides, I believe I said (more or less) what you meant in my original post. I see no reason to be redundant. You also said: "There is also another rule in effect for chat in regards to random Youtube links being posted without much purpose behind them other than a prompt to 'check out this video'." This is not what happened. Someone brought up the subject of the singer, Edith Piaf. I inquired about her, and asked which of her songs I should search for on Youtube. In response, they posted a direct link to the Youtube video. The purpose behind this is very plain to see. In response to the remainder of your post, which was: "The rule exists to cut down on video spam that doesn't serve anything to generate discussion. Is one thing if the video being linked to is conversation provoking or is related to mods/gaming, and another if it's just a clip from a tv show or some song." I vehemently disagree with your implication that this was video spam. It was not as though this link was posted without prompting. I do not understand how you could further imply that sharing a love for music is not discussion generating, or conversation provoking. I find your blatant disregard for the ideas I am trying to convey to be both vexing and irritating, but I would like to stress upon you that I do not mean to offend by my criticisms in any way. I merely wish to cut to the heart of this issue, and to have my opinions both acknowledged and adequately addressed. When you read my words, please do not imagine me to be vindictive, or antagonistic, but rather calm and measured. @BlackBaron2 I do not think that you were asking. If you were, then you were asking only as a formality, because a true request gives the subject a choice. I never raised objection to your choice of words, though. I agree, you were polite. You were also unwilling to address any challenge to your decision, or to offer any justified reason for making it. If anyone should choose to respond to this, I urge you to take your time in composing your thoughts and I thank you for your consideration, if you should choose to grant it.
  2. I was encouraged to post here regarding a complaint I have. There is a rule in place which bans the posting of any web material that is not in English; or at least this is how I was made to understand it by the chatroom moderator who enforced it. I can understand the reason for this rule. At least in concept. I believe it to be in place in order to prevent highly offensive (or illegal) material from being posted on this site, the English speaking admins non the wiser. This is not what I dispute. I am disputing the enforcement of this rule. Someone in the chatroom posted a youtube link, which is an English website, of a song which was sung in french. The singer was Edith Piaf, the song was Non, je ne regrette rien (1961). I believe that the harmless nature of this link to be quite obvious. It is an authoritative figure's responsibility to exercise good judgment when choosing when to enforce a rule, and this requires the administrator to understand the reason for the rule being in place. I do not believe that this was the case in this instance. Authority grants power, and those who wield it are burdened with the weight of that power. To enforce law blindly is to abuse the virtues that laws are in place to protect.
