  1. YES! The email was in my inbox this morning! I agree on hoping it won't be an MMO; and really wish we didn't have to wait till December 31, but still = WOOOOOOOOOT!!!! I can't wait !!!!!
  2. I am just very VERY grateful that they have seen how the majority of the community feels about this; and that enough public pressure applied was all it took for them to stand by the fans that have stood by them all these years. Thank you Bethesda; you have made the right decision.
  3. In response to post #24690474. #24690694 is also a reply to the same post. Thanks! I've found it on a few pages and not on others since I posted that. I wonder if it is an option some members have opted out of?
  4. What happened to the option we used to have to buy a Premium membership for another member? That used to be an option, can't find it anymore.
  5. In response to post #24679789. #24680359, #24680884, #24680909, #24681594, #24683019, #24683494, #24686649, #24686714, #24687229, #24689004 are all replies on the same post. Ha! I just saw that, Thank you!
  6. In response to post #24679789. #24680359, #24680884, #24680909 are all replies on the same post. These are some fantastic ideas. I would also like to see a donate button on that row of buttons for the Endorsements and Votes - so the person who comes back to endorse sees the donate option then; while they are endorsing and commenting the mod. (To me, it is a better option than the one popping up on download before you even know if you like the mod or if it works).
  7. In response to post #24670644. #24670769 is also a reply to the same post. Did you not see the lighted windows and smoking chimneys in Skyrim? Or notice some of Vilja's abilities as a companion in followers like Serana? The game has always absorbed the best ideas the mods has to offer, I would think it would be a source of pride for the author; and none of us but them know if there was ever a "Thank you" to the author. I agree it would be nice if Bethesda put in their credits "idea for lighted windows was inspired by the mod Texian's Lighting System;" and that wouldn't cost them a dime - have they done it? I don't know, truthfully never looked. But it would be nice if they gave credit for the idea. But as long as they don't actually use the author's mod; but make their own version of it - they really owe no compensation for using an idea that was posted on a public forum on the internet. This site is full of innovative modders, and if I saw one of my ideas in a game it would thrill me to death; all you can think of is sue for compensation. We are obviously very different people basically. But that doesn't make either of us in the right, we just both have our own viewpoints. Look, all of us really need to look at who would benefit most by all this infighting and attacking each other that is going on here. If this site implodes, we all lose. The only winner would be Valve-Steam. By Nexus continuing to offer free mods opposite Valve trying to make money off them; it has placed Nexus on a target list for Valve-Steam to take down. Valve is a huge organization that is cornering the gaming market; Nexus is an individual who cares about his site. If Nexus implodes; Valve gets even bigger; it will gladly crush this place and absorb the revenue. The only real way to stop the turn of events would be a united front of blackballing Valve; Steam; and Bethesda - realistically we all know that is never going to happen; especially not with Fallout 4 possibly coming out this year. So it is obvious we are not going to be able to stop what is happening. All we are doing with all this infighting is tearing apart this site and weakening it. Attacking the person who has freely given you this playground for decades to host your mods on at their own expense - I don't believe any of the long term members here question the business decisions made by the administration on this site. How stupid would they be to thumb their nose at Bethesda; who is the maker of the games whose mods they are hosting? Use your heads those of you who are demanding he throw the Service Provider status back in their faces. Use your brains, because that is what this site was founded on - Bethesda games. And in turning that offer down, they would be severing themselves from Bethesda's future enterprise; which is exactly what Valve wants to happen. So think before you attack. The only one who benefits from all this imploding of this site is Valve. We need to pull ourselves together as a community and plan how we are going to handle this situation. The next best step would be to minimize the damages to ourselves. Everyone on here is rightfully concerned with protecting our intellectual property. All of us are afraid our work will be stolen and sold on Steam; because they have already proven they will back the one on their site over the original author's claims. No matter where we post our mods, even if we all opened up our own web pages and posted them - they are still vulnerable to be stolen. They always have been vulnerable, but until the last few years there was very little to worry about because the people of this site have always recognized each other's right of ownership of their work and 99% of us respected it. That percentage seems to have changed a lot in the past few years. It is a new breed of member to our modding community; whose entitlement includes usurping others hard work as their own. These past couple years when a member stole another's work, Nexus immediately banned that member, but the member had to fight with Steam to have their work removed from under another person's name - even when they had proof via their initials in inventory or on scripts. Immediately in the shock of this announcement Nexus's first act of business was to protect our rights by adding that option on by default to our permissions page. It may mean nothing to Steam's lawyers; but it was a proactive step toward protecting the members. And I guarantee this site will have its members backs should one of their mods be stolen and sold. But I don't have the same faith in Steam because they have proven otherwise. So yes, we do have a valid reason to be concerned. See, this is exactly what is going to feed this whole issue into Valve's hands. The modder who doesn't want to have his work stolen and sold on Steam has a few choices: 1. They can pull it down like Chesko did; which zeroes out all their hard work and they become a nothing in the void - a memory of a great modder that used to be here. 2. They can keep their mod up and police the mods being sold (like Fores did) to ensure their work is not included in any of the uploaded files. 3. They can pre-empt the thieves by putting it up for sale themselves on Steam, thereby thwarting the thieves since then Steam has a reason to protect their rights. THAT is what Valve wants to happen. Believe it, that is exactly what they want to happen. What all of us need to do is to ensure we have put our fingerprint into many places in our mods so that we can prove the mod is ours. 1. Any meshes and textures added should have some code in the middle or end of the ID that only you know belongs to you - example, your actual initials rather than your profile name. Other than that name them something similar to the vanilla similar pieces. The reason you put the coded letters in the middle or end is that then the meshes and textures are not all in one place to be easily found; they will be hard to distinguish among the hundreds of other meshes and textures - but you will know what you put into the mod, and will be able to pinpoint them as proof the mod was stolen from you. 2. Add a coded identifier only you know to your scripts in a place it won't be readily seen by someone looking for it to delete; and make sure it compiles with the script so if it is removed from the compiled script it will throw an error message - one of the modders who gave me permission to use his script for my mod did this, and it is an awesome security feature. 3. If you take an image of your mod, place something into the set that is an identifier - Tamira does this, if you notice in her screens of the Hobbit house she has a piece from her Static dishes - because most of these thieves steal the screenshots and use them too rather than take their own. Protect yourself; watch the paywall site to see if any of your material is being uploaded; be proactive to protect your own assets because Steam will not do that for you. Also, if anyone on here does purchase a mod and find a known marker from another member who you don't believe has given their permission - tell them, give them a heads up. Let us not lose our close knit community to this situation, because to let it destroy us will just place us all in Valve's hands. That is all that will come of all this infighting. We need to pull together as a community more than ever now; or we will be destroyed by it. Let us not let that happen.

It costs the site a lot of money when you download mods; that bandwidth is hugely expensive. Members downloading mods and not helping support the site are why there has to be advertisers, to pay for what you are not helping with, to pay for those downloads you made for free. This site - they never ask for anything back; this community continues to open their welcome to you warmly, even the administration who is paying your way for you. Of course they take what is freely offered to them, it would make no sense to cut ties with Bethesda at this point, which is what you are telling them they should have done. Your principles would be a lot more believable if you showed enough concern for this site to help it out and support it yourself. So you and the girl Psijonica that claimed to have a wife and three children when she is acting thirteen - you both should really should think before you come attacking the management for keeping in business dealings with Bethesda when that is their largest client. Instead you both should be thanking them for giving you a place you can come and download awesome mods for free.

Okay, you have really ceased to make sense here. You obviously have no idea whatsoever the depth of what has occurred here, and all the false principles you are basing your stance on boils down to you don't want anything to cost you anything. Nexus has been shelling out millions of dollars for decades for us and asked for nothing back unless we wanted to offer it. I have been on numerous sites, and the Premium membership on this site is the lowest I've found anywhere other than Chorrol, who refuses any donations, but doesn't offer any bandwidth either. You have no idea how ridiculous it sounds to say they shouldn't have allowed themselves to be listed as a Service Provider. They ARE a service provider, and you have been soaking that up for free from what I can see. This is business, not a playground. They have to protect us and this site, and they are doing it in the best way possible. Smart people don't cut their own noses off just to spite their face; you are doing it and expecting the management here to act like you - they won't. They have a business to run if they want to keep providing all of us and you this free site to host our mods on.
  11. I for one am glad that they gave the 5% option for other modding communities rather than just Steam to reap it all if this is where the state of the modding community is headed. This site has been here as long as I've been playing Bethesda games, and god knows how much bandwidth I've cost them. And TESAlliance taught me everything about modding I know to this point. I don't even know if they are listed as a service provider, but truthfully I hope they are. Because otherwise Steam is just going to have that 5% extra in their pocket, and they are the last ones I'd like to see have it. I am against paid mods more because of the way it is being done - and I'm not talking about the breakdown of monies at all; but channeling everything through Steam who has not yet policed their own site to this point; and even handed out administrative privileges to mod authors to police their own pages - as much as handing the thieves a way to get rid of the original authors claims to their work. If we had been dealt with honestly, and upfront right from the start instead of this cloak of secrecy and deception - that doesn't garner trust. Truthfully, I am more against this just because of the secretive way it was handled, like trying to pull something over on everyone. I can't trust Steam at all to have any of our best interests at heart. Nexus I trust, and don't for a second begrudge them a service fee for all the bandwidth they provide freely for all of us. I have never doubted Nexus could be trusted to be on our side come hell or high water. And this is the hell and high water, and I believe they are on our side like they have always been. Do I believe Steam told Chesko not to ask permission of Fores - yeah, I do. They wrapped this up so deep in secrecy; so yeah, I believe him on that. And then Steam's lawyer as much as gave Chesko the go ahead legally. Any one of us would know it was wrong. Every one of us would have known not to. Chesko shouldn't have used that mod if he couldn't get permission first. We all know better than to use without asking, and if he was bound to secrecy he should have held back on that mod or removed the part of it that he couldn't ask about. (or just uploaded Arissa if it is really true that was all his work; although I seem to remember her needing FNIS too, but I could be wrong). The fact that Steam's lawyer encouraged him to use Fores work without permission and gave the legal go ahead just shows how untrustworthy Steam will be in protecting any of us. From what I understand, they actually forbade Chesko from removing it even knowing another's work was in it - because supposedly it had sold several copies already. Fores rights to his intellectual property were the last thing on Steam's mind. They do not have any of our best interest in their mind; but Nexus does. It is better they receive that 5% than Steam, and I hope if any of our members do go sell their mods, that they make sure that 5% goes to Nexus, TESAlliance, AFK, etc - the places that have done the most for you. And hope that these sites all still have a future when all the dust from Valve-Steam-Bethesda plans have settled. It isn't about the money. It has everything to do with the community as a whole; the future of modding as we know it. I do have to budget my income; I doubt there is a single person here that doesn't. But for all they have done for me, I am more than glad to support Nexus and TESAlliance - and I trust them both fully to have my best interests at heart. And Modders like Stroti, Tamira, Badgremlin, FlintOne/Garnet18, JBVW, Rileymarks, Mr_Siika, MEO, ORTeam, DesuChan/Misianthrope, Yevic, DarkRider, Insanity Sorrow, Timeslip, etc. - I would gladly pay donations to any of these modders in a heartbeat if I had the money and the option was available; or purchase memberships in their name if I was rolling in funds, etc. These mods brought he greatest fun and immersion imaginable to my game. I have used their mods for years and years and loved them; they brought more enjoyment to my game than I ever thought possible - and this is just the names that come to the top of my head, there are so many more that deserve mention here that I will kick myself for not remembering to mention later. So it isn't about the money. It is about the future of this modding community. It is about the future of Nexus, and TESAlliance. We have already seen the secrecy they used to spring this on everyone, so I have to wonder what else they are up to that we don't know; and how will it affect us and Nexus. This occurring right now, just before E3 where Fallout 4 is to be announced - well, I can't help but wonder if Steam is going to have exclusive upload rights to all the Geck mods for Fallout 4. The service agreement being discussed here may be just for Skyrim mods. Then what happens to Nexus if they are cut out of the future of modding Betheda games? I don't trust Steam, they are slicker than (*@#%&). And there is a strong possibility they may be funding Bethesda's pre-production costs for Fallout 4. The future of Nexus's connection to Bethesda may be in jeopardy beyond this point. I don't blame them for one second that they allowed themselves to be listed as Service Providers. I doubt they had any more choice in the future of what Bethesda and Steam are planning than we have as a community. But to churlishly refuse the offer would be to cut their own noses off to spite their own face; there would be no sense in that. But all of us need to be concerned about where this is headed beyond this incident. Because it is headed somewhere, this is just the first bump in the road. I just hope we all have each other at the end of all of this; that we still have this Awesome site that has been our home for over a decade. Nexus has my full support, and always will. I trust whatever business decisions they make to be in all of our best interest. Can't say the same for Steam, or even Bethesda at this point.

It isn't hypocritical at all, and it is smart business because no one can change the Valve-Bethesda tide rolling; and if they don't keep a foot in the door we could lose Nexus. Nexus has been a home and haven for modders as long as I can remember. They have helped us all without advertisement; and bandwidth for this place has to be hugely expensive. Their premium membership here is the most reasonable on the web; I was more than glad to help this site in any way I could. I would never consider asking money for a mod I made, but if I did, would much rather the cut go to Nexus than Valve. Just my two cents. ** Edit: AnonOwnsYou said it better than I could.
