  1. I got the same problem. If one or more mods are missing, savegames do not load when I click on yes. This has to be a bug on BG3s end. I tried even removing all mods but it didn't work. Edit: After reading the PDF explanation from Different Mod Settings Fix I understood that this method alters the save file. And once you have one working save file, you can save then normally. It worked for me.
  2. Thats what I just did, I created a dummy "Fallout HD.esp" file. I read about it here here I just thought using the .ini would be "cleaner" because this way I don't need a loader .esp file. And in Skyrim it did work, but only because Fallout3/NV does have this strange limit, it doesn't. And that additional .esp file also adds more bloat to the savegame. Edit: It didn't work with Fallout HD.esp, but with HD Textures.esp and HD Textures - Architecture.bsa, etc it works!
  3. Hi there, I'm using some texture packs for New Vegas (NMCs, WRP, BOA). I don't want to clutter my Textures folder with so many files, so I made BSA archives with the textures inside. Then I did put the BSA archives names within Fallout.ini and FalloutPrefs.ini (I dunno which one is responsive for it). But the textures do not load. My .ini now looks like this (the HD files are my archives): SArchiveList=Fallout - Invalidation.bsa, Fallout - Textures.bsa, Fallout - Textures2.bsa, Fallout - Meshes.bsa, Fallout - Voices1.bsa, Fallout - Sound.bsa, Fallout - Misc.bsa, Fallout HD - Architecture.bsa, Fallout HD - Dungeons.bsa, Fallout HD - Environment.bsa, Fallout HD - Misc.bsa When I place the textures in the loose folders, it works Also when I rename the the BSA files to the name of an .esp file, they DO load. So whats with the archives within the .ini files? In Skyrim it works that way. I heard about a name limit, could this be the case? Edit: When I name the archive A.bsa it does load... strange... need more testing...
  4. Hi there, I've got a question regarding textures. If I compress a .dds texture with DXT, it takes up less space on my hdd. But when I play the game then and the texture gets loaded in my graphics cards VRAM, does it get uncompressed or does it stay compressed? Lets say I have an armor texture 2048x2048. Uncompressed its 16MB in size, compressed with DXT its 2.7MB. Does this texture take up 16MB of my VRAM or only 2.7MB? So is texture compression only good for my HDD or also for my VRAM? I'm playing around with Textures Optimizer and the official HighResTexturePack and I'm wondering if I should keep the 2k textures if I can compress them or if I should resize them to 1K.
  5. I can't help you with the normal maps but I can help you with transparency: To open the .nif files you best use Nifskope (http://sourceforge.net/projects/niftools/files/nifskope/) Gilead Maerlyn once told me how to do this: If you want skin beneath your transparent texture, you need to add a body mesh Best if you use a body from another skimpy mod that is not the full body, else you get a lot of clipping. Then just remove the parts you want transparent in your texture and save it (DXT1 should be fine if you don't use alpha transparency) and Nifskope should update the model.
  6. With the CK out there are more and more modders who add config spells and lesser powers to your spellbook or config items to your inventory. Please do not do this! This completely ruins immersion and imagine you have a lot of mods installed which also add new spells: Lets say I install Deadly Dragons, Better Vampires and Dynavision, then I have a new Conjuration spell for Dynavision, one new Power for Deadly Dragons and 4(!) new Powers for Better Vampires. If I also install Advanced Killmoves and Deadly Combat then I have two new items in my inventory to configure those two mods. AKM even has a script preventing you from dropping the book ( ;) ). I know there is no settings interface to modify and you want to make your mod easy to config for the "average user" but this is not the way to go. Maybe some day someone will add a new ui part where you can change mod settings but currently there are only the old fashioned alternatives: - Horses for Followers is ok, it does add a config book, but its out there at the stables and doesn't pollute your inventory. It even adds some lore behind it. - If you only have a few versions of your mod with different settings, just offer them all for download. Or if you don't want to do this, put all versions in one archive and let the user install the right one with NMM. A good example here is Better Followers. - If there are some ingame settings to modify, use console commands to change the settings or to summon the npc that lets you change settings. If the "average user" is so smart and can install mods (which is made easier with NMM), he should also be so smart and use the console or choose the right version. (PS: Yeah, I know Steam Workshop doesn't support multiple files to choose from, I know this sucks and there is no other way then to add new spells -.-)
  7. But then you should also add that heavy armor (or good light armor) deflects arrows. I don't think a simple wood arrow can pierce heavy steel armor. Nice idea. I like the crime system of Gothic3: - When you draw your weapon/magic in towns, the people tell you to put it down else they attack - Same with sneaking around openly - If you steal a lot of valuables in a town, the guards stop you and ask if you know anything about it. If you steal even more, they say "We can't take any risks" and attack you. You could add a (hidden) bounty to every item you steal. Some caves also have magic lights or light crystals or sun shining through, don't remove everything completely.
  8. Imagine in MMOs all players would play what they are irl, then two things would happen: You would hardly see female chars and those you do see would get jumped on by every guy around. So in multiplayer games there are even more reasons to play as female. And in general, I'm a guy who likes playing female chars, the same way I like cute actresses in movies so I like to see my female char ingame. And there is nothing wrong with it and it shows you are definetely not gay ;) According to my psychology prof its a common phenomenon in role playing games called "gender swapping". And for your information: I also know irl girls who play male characters (this was in Lineage2 were male darkelves are muscular guys with topless outfits ;) )
  9. Thanks Gilead Maelyn for your help. Btw: Wheres the difference between _0 and _1 .nif files? And can I just copy & rename _0.nif's to _1.nif's ?
  10. Too much saturation and colors for my taste. I already play World of Warcraft, I want Skyrim to look cool ;) I had this mod as well and used only bloom and fxaa and it looked great. Only problem was it also affected Steam Overlay.
  11. Why not try to make our own mod... does anyone know how to edit the new .nif files of Skyrim? My plan is to have the helmets use no mesh at all. Hmm but that would also make helmets of NPCs invisible, bad idea... Maybe there is something like invisible slots like in Dragon Age...
