  1. Yeah, I know Vortex doesn't run on Linux but tonight I've been banging my head futiliy against a wall to try and get it installed either via Lutris or via Steam Tinker Linux. Neither one works even though all the online installation instructions say it should just work. OK. So I'm a programmer. I've been doing this for decades. Vortex is open source. So I can just make my own Linux native version of it, right? :D Realistically, though, how much effort do you think that would be? If it's reasonable and it would be accepted I'm willing to give it a shot, though I can't honestly say how much time a week I'd be able to devote to this, so that's why I'm asking what experienced Vortex developers think of this idea. Is it too much for one person to take on?
  2. MGO credits They don't really make it obvious, do they? The installer adds a few documentation files into the main Morrowind directory, and one of them has links to the credits and FAQ list.
  3. I'm with you Redlost - text is much preferable to video in my opinion. I can easily scan a piece of text to see if it contains anything interesting to me, whereas a video has to be watched in it's entirety before I can know whether or not it has anything useful to me. I also usually have music playing on my computer, so watching a video means I have to stop the music or else listen to a cacaphony of conflicting sounds that become unintelligible. Yay text!
  4. Thank you! I'm replaying Morrowind at the moment, but after that I am going to have another go at Skyrim - my first playthough was right after it came out, so there were almost no mods. Having a nice concise guide like this wil help me greatly in setting my new Skyrim game.
  5. Can you provide a direct download link? I'd be happy to look at it for you, but not if it means installing some special program to do so. One thing I can recommend, though, is that you install Wrye Mash and try using it's save game repair tool. It could help. You can get Mash here.
  6. I'm with you on these, and most especially Wing Commander. I'm really looking forward to Star Citizen precisely because it looks like it might actually be a worthy successor. But the games I'd most like to see get a good reboot are the Ultima series, especially 4 through 7. Those were the games that really defined RPGs for a long time and set a lot of standards in terms of depth of story and character development that even today are rarely met. Morrowind and the Mass Effect games are among the few games that I think really live up to the standards of Ultima. Now, Richard Garriot is working on an Ultima-like game called Shroud of the Avatar, but so far I'm less than enthused. I'll certainly check it out, of course, but I'm not getting good vibes from it so far.
  7. Are you sure you aren't using Wrye Bash for Oblivion? Bash is the Oblivion tool and Mash is the Morrowind tool. They look and work very similarly but are separate programs nonetheless. You can get Mash here: http://wryemusings.com/#WryeMash
  8. I'd bet $5 that you don't have Westly's Master Head Pack installed since I recently had the same problem: lot's of load errors and missing meshes and textures. MCA requires that Westly's Master Head Pack be installed because the meshes it provides are used by MCA. (The actual ESP file from the Head Pack is optional, though.) Download here: http://planetelderscrolls.gamespy.com/View.php?view=mods.detail&id=6173
  9. There's only two things I can recommend, one easy and the other tedious. The easy thing is to download an run the Morrowind load order analyzer MLOX. https://code.google.com/p/mlox/wiki/Mlox It's very good at sorting your mods into the best load order and this often resolves issues. The tedious thing is to do a binary search and start disabling mods to see which specific ones are causing the trouble. Start by disabling half of the mods. If that makes the error go away, then focus on that group: turn everything back on, but then disable half of the problem group and retest. Keep narrowing down the mods by half each time until you find the troublemaker. So the first try you'll disable 60 mods, the second try 30, the third try 15, etc. Doing it like this you can find the problem mod in only 7 loads of the game. After finding the first problem mod, you'd repeat the search while always leaving that first mod enabled. This second time through will find the one that the first is conflicting with. Then you could either disable one them permanently, or check onlien to see if there are upgraded version or a patch that resolves the conflict.
  10. Which texture replacer are you using? Normally all you have to do is copy the texture files into place and that's that. The only thing that might cause a problem is the files being in the wrong directory by accident. For instance, if you accidently copy a mod's "Data Files" folder into the Morrowind "Data Files" folder, thus ending up with "Data Files/Data Files", then nothing will work because the mod files will be somewhere that the game isn't looking.
  11. You have a typo. In your chain of elsifs you have "elseif ( button == 3 )" twice in a row.
  12. This may not be the best forum for this question, but I don't see one that is obviously about making mods. Admins: feel free to move this post if there is a better place for it. Is there a way to use a script or other in game mechanism to change the name of an item? Not the object ID of course, just the display name. In particular I want to be able to let the player enter a new name and have that show in the pop-up box when the item (a creature in this case) is focussed under the crosshairs. I've been looking through the construction set and other sources (Morrowind Scripting for Dummies, Morrowind Mod Maker Manual, and Morrowind Script Library) but I haven't seen anything and I suspect that what I want to do is just impossible. Is that the case, or is there a way to change names in game?
  13. Oooh! Thanks for that link. I've encountered a couple of those problems and worked around them already, but my current real game is still fairly new, so I've not run into most of those issues yet and I can get them corrected before they become a problem.
  14. Fargoth? A minor prophet at best. The true divine is Jiub. Jiub draws you out of the Dreaming and into the true world. Jiub states that not even the storm could wake you. But Jiub could. Jiub gives you knowledge of self when he asks "what's your name?" Jiub teaches you to respect authority. Jiub is the beginning of life and wisdom and wonder in the world. Praise him!
  15. I've recently started a new game myself, so I'll let you know some of what I'm using. If you've got the hardware to handle it (and these days most people do) start out by installing the Graphics Sound Overhaul It really makes Morrowind into a beautiful game. (This is a compilation of other mods, by the way, so if you install it be sure to check it's contents and credits before adding other graphic mods. You might just find that the others are already included in MGSO.) Next, grab all of the Less Generic NPC mods. These add a lot of depth to the conversations you have with NPCs, and in some cases also add new quests. If you have any interest in joining House Redoran (the "warrior" faction in Morrowind) then the LGNPC Redoran mods are an absolute must in my opinion. If you'd like a little more realism and want sleep and food to be meaningful (and required!) then Necessities of Morrowind is a great addition. It provides usable bedrolls, interesting foods that you can buy or cook yourself, portable campfires and grills, a restaurant, tisanes and juices that have potion-like effects, and drunkeness effects that can be really funny at times. One companion mod that I recommend is Julan, Ashlander Companion. He's not just a dumb NPC who carries stuff for you. Rather he has a really strong and compelling story of his own that I think adds a lot of flavor to the game as you play the main quest. The Delayed Dark Brotherhood Attack mod is a good addition if you are starting a new game and have Tribunal installed. Instead of instantly suffering a series of attacks by assasins, you won't be attacked until your character has actually had time to level up and gain a reputation in the world that would draw the attention of the people behind the attacks. abot's Take My Place is a very useful and practical addition that just lets you swap places with someone else. This is very handy in crowded places like taverns where it can be difficult to move around. (All of abot's mods are excellent, by the way. I use most of them in my game.) Finally, I'll toot my own horn. Tonight I uploaded my own very first mod. It's a rentable apartment in Balmora. Nothing fancy - just a small place suitable for beginning characters. There are lots of other house mods already, of course, but I'm rather pleased with it and would love it if someone else gave it a try. For other mod recommendations, try perusing the top lists here and at Planet Elder Scrolls. There's a lot of really amazing work out there. Enjoy the game!
