this drove me nuts until i found some microsoft software (www.microsoft.com/hardware/en-us/d/internet-keyboard) that tho it's implemented for one their keyboards i know to work for logitech g15s (i originally found out about it in logitech forum) and my pixxo cheap-as-dirt multimedia kb, adds a little display at the bottom right when you change the volume out of game but no changes in game aside from being able to pause your music when some npc is mumbling at you or turn down the volume when a dragon decides to land on your face repeatedly, not a perfect fix, but it works
