Since a few hours, and it's extremely frustrating to can not play games i paid for. Being on XP it can't be admin problems, right ? So it launchs the update process every time but close in less than one second. And so far i've tried : - to disable everything in the folder, then reboot the PC and restart Steam. It is making an huge update of 100k, before closing, and nothing else. - to run steam://flushconfig, then reboot. Does nothing too. - to rename the folder Steam1, same as above. - to rename ClientRegistry.blob with Old, same as above. The problem is maybe coming from a subfolder called chrome.pak (which is empty) as the debug.log say : [1120/100049:ERROR:resource_bundle.cc(417)] Failed to load G:\Steam\bin\chrome.pak Some features may not be available. [1120/100049:FATAL:browser_database_system.cc(40)] Check failed: temp_dir_.CreateUniqueTempDir(). Does someone have an idea of what i can do now ? P.S. : remove or delete this thread if it's the wrong place to ask for such help, but i don't even remember my Steam forums nick and password. EDIT : Steam works again, the problem was likely coming from it. Sorry ...

Yes, the new beta worked for me too. Pfew ! Glad it's finally sorted.

A Valve employeer posted this exact message on their forum a few hours ago : Probably too early to shout "hipipipourax", but it's a first step in the right direction. I hope we'll soon be back to offline Skyrim !

I have exactly the same issue since the steam update, it's driving me mad as i don't want to use the CK online ! No supposed fixes have worked, i don't know what to do anymore. I can just facepalm because i can't play and mod offline a game i paid. A lot of people complain about this on their forum, but they completely don't care. There has been no official statement, nothing. If they don't fix it soon i'm done with Skyrim, and of course steam.
