  1. Shouldn't the solution for team-based donations be to show donation options for each member with descriptions for his/her role?
  2. In response to post #16759214. #16760674, #16765084, #16778034, #16789174 are all replies on the same post. The benefit of the old system is that sometimes the European servers won't work and with that system I could just pick an American one now I have to dig into my preferences if I am in that situation.
  3. First off, I love this thread. So glad I decided to check the forum. I love watching all the Oblivion video being posted showing the awesomeness that is random AI. I have massive nostalgiagasms, I think I'll have to replay Oblivion very soon. It will be interesting to see the contrast having played so much Skyrim. To be honest the biggest thing holding me back from playing Oblivion is having to install all the mods because I now myself I would spend so much time on that. Edit: NVM I reinstalled Oblivion, actually wasn't that much work because I was smart and kept a folder with all the extracted mods I used in my last playthrough where I put a lot of time into finding all the mods. /Edit Skyrim really feels like it wasn't designed around the idea that the player spends a lot of time in cities. It's almost like they don't want you to do that. Think back to Oblivion or even more extreme in Morrowind how much time I spent INSIDE the cities how much things there were to do how many places to explore. I made an experiment yesterday and decided to explore Whiterun and visit some homes the only NPC home that I could find that wasn't locked was that of Amren and that of the Greymanes. Cities in Skyrim feel like places to sell stuff to get back into the dungeons they feel like a means to an end not something worthwhile in and of itself. /rant
  4. I'm using the SKSE function RegisterForMenu and I'm wondering if you have to give options to UnregisterForMenu for a clean uninstall? I thought you had to but I've come across two mods already that DON'T do that and I want to know if they are just sloppy or if it isn't necessary? Edit: Hmm from the Creation Kit wiki on RegisterForUpdate: "Also note that other events do not have those problems. This is specific to RegisterForUpdate."
  5. If at all financially possible, can you remove autoplay video ads? That kind of stuff makes me really want to remove the whitelisting from adblock. Very annoying when you have a couple of mod tabs open, listen to music and suddenly an ad plays in the background and you have no idea which tab is causing it.
  6. I'm working on my Vampire mod and I have to change the perk VampireFeed which has Papyrus fragments attached to each of the two perk entries. No matter what I do compiling never works even only ";" will give errors. Even the Dawnguard perk with the Dawnguard script will not compile. I've read here that quest papyrus fragments have to be handled in a VERY specific way for them to work so I'm assuming a similar thing is happening here. Does anybody know what the magic trick is to get anything to compile?
  7. But that's the thing I don't have to ally myself with her to save the world. Killing her IS saving the world. Her blood and Elder Scroll are needed for the prophecy kill her secure the Elder Scroll you don't need her in fact you are taking a risk by allowing her to live a huge one by handing her over. On the subject of Morrowind's text based system. I'm very much with you. It's perhaps my favorite dialog system in gaming but I really don't see it being used in a AAA game any time soon. People are just too used to voice acting and a lot of people don't like to read especially in more action heavy games. However, I don't think I never had that disconnect when playing Morrowind because they weren't restrained by the cost of voice acting. I really think Morrowind was just a different game with a different focus made for players that do think outside the box and Skyrim for the most part isn't. I may be wrong but I feel like they just don't care enough with Skyrim to give options or at least rationale for why someone who isn't the stereotypical Nord hero warrior would play the game. They are so focused on catering to how their largest audience will most likely play. It's quite ironic when you listen to the making of and they say: "If we pose an interesting problem and then we let the player solve it in whatever he deems fit, that's gonna make the cool, interesting story." WTF happened?
  8. I'm currently playing Dawnguard again as a vampire after taking a break due to the boringness that is the Soul Cairn (which is another forum thread worth of ranting) I was reminded of this thread. I really enjoyed reading all the new responses. I actually ended my "vampire hunter" playthrough when I met Valerica in the Soul Cairn because she said her Elder Scroll and Serana's blood was needed to complete the prophecy. I told Serana to wait, left the Soul Cairn and in my mind sealing the portal and destroying all evidence that could ever open it again effectively solving the prophecy issue. A quite satisfying ending to a frustrating story. We are very much alike in that regard. I'm glad I wasn't the only one that thought those were outrageous. You raise an interesting point that backs up my previous suggestion on how to fix my issues with the quest. I didn't ask for numerious choices with branching stories all I wanted was for it to make sense. I think the problem comes with player expectations. When a player decides to enter a faction he also enters a contract with the designer stating that you are fine with doing the things this faction is known for. I don't complain when the Dark Brotherhood sends me to kill people and I just want to talk to them. I joined the faction knowing full well what to expect. When you join the Companions thinking you would be a hearty warrior/mercenary and are forced to become a werewolf with no alternative the designer breaks the contract. This is even worse with the Thieves Guild as the break happens in the last third. There really are so many quests that I just abandoned because they didn't give me options that were acceptable with my character. The House of Horrors in Markarth comes to mind. You can only save the priest to send him to his death there is no hey don't go in there it's a trap or I'm going to help you. Also a quest that starts with you helping someone to rid a house of deadra and ends with you killing a priest trying to do just that. This mod changes that. It's all the more surprising when they give you a choice on how to deal with the Dark Brotherhood that was one of my favorite moments of the game. I'm really of two minds wether the game became the way it is due to time constraints or because they made the game for people who follow quest markers and do exactly as they are told . Does this quest only conclude this way because it is the obvious solution that gives you the daedric reward and who would choose to sacrifice the reward just for the sake of RP? I really like Skyrim but I worry for the next game because I don't like where this is going.
  9. Hi, does anybody know of a way to hide the pop-up display of the Objectives? I found these variables: fQuestCinematicObjectiveFadeIn fQuestCinematicObjectiveFadeOut etc... but setting them to either zero or high values doesn't seem to change anything. I also tried early and late load orders for the mod. I did read the page on Quest Objectives on the Wiki but the only I option I found there would involve changing every single quest.
  10. So I've been critizising a lot so I wanted to make a constructive post outlining the changes that I think would have easiliy alleviated all my issues. 1. Account for the player attacking Serana by making her cast ";Vampire's Seduction (Calm)"; which forces the player to holster his weapons. Play with the idea that the player cannot get rid of her and she is teasing him by saying she won't leave unless he helps her. 2. Hide the Elder Scroll, the player must not know that she is carrying the Elder Scroll until it is mentioned inside the castle.
  11. That option is interesting surprising that they thought of that but not about making this plot less of a hole. Now I'm kind of bummed out that I just overwrote my savegame which was at a point where I could have tried that out. I read online though that he just tells you "to play along" even though he seemed so upset when that was what I did and more importantly why should you play along? Just get the Elder Scroll and be done with it. I don't know I have already lost faith in the writers of Dawnguard atm I don't feel at all like finishing it (maybe on the next char and as a vamp). Edit: I never said I didn't like her character I do, a lot actually, (although she seemed a little too apathetic about everything considering she just awoke after thousands of years and the first guy she meets is a vampire hunter), I also think the voice actress did an amazing job. I felt bad about (trying to) killing her but I had to because common sense.
  12. I would agree with you if it weren't for the fact she is carrying an Elder Scroll and even admits it. She already gives you directions to the castle when you first meet her but you could argue that that isn't enough without her guidance. I continued playing and told myself she completely took control over me and is using me against my will it was pretty neat when we came across the destroyed Vigil and I roleplayed like I was about to break free from her spell . Anyway this whole plot is ridiculous so I brought her back and returned to the Dawnguard and Isran rightfully is like WTF are you doing? When he asks where she is now, one of the answers is literally "She wanted to go home, so I took her to her castle." I facepalmed. Then he again rationally asks why you didn't take the Elder Scroll and the answers are: "There were too many." "Im lucky I made it out alive." "I never had the chance." All of the choices obviously don't explain why you did not take it when she was still alone... I took the last option going with my indoctrination RP. How is this so bad? How did nobody think this through? Surely they must have had enough time to release DLC when they feel it is ready.
  13. The mods aren't necessary at all. Bethesda should indeed think about the main playstyles or characters and provide a limited set of choices accordingly but in this case my choice should be the norm. You are a vampire hunter, you are told the vampires want something which is most likely related to Serana I'm assuming its the Elder Scroll and you are handing it right over TO the vampires. Her explanation when you tell her the Dawnguard would want her dead is: "Well look kill me and you've killed one vampire. If people are after me then there's something bigger going on." I'm sorry but that does NOT suffice. There just isn't any reason why you should trust her you should kill her to secure what the vampires were looking for that is what a vampire hunter does that is what the game even tells you the Dawnguard would want. I've been trying to kill her myself right now, the xx should be 02 if Dawnguard is at the top of your loadorder. But using "setessential 02002B6C 0" doesn't let me kill her. :( Edit: Even using kill on her afterwards doesn't work.
  14. Thanks for the suggestions. That is actually a pretty neat idea they could have easily triggered a sort of killcam that showed her using some kind of spell that then forced you to holster your weapons when you were repeatedly beating her. I would have been totally fine with that. Edit: I just realized you have to join the Dawnguard in order to join the vampires. That just seems really unintuitive, having that as an option is nice but that being the only option I don't know this just doesn't seem well thought out at all. As a vampire you'd have to get cured join the Dawnguard and then join the Volkhair...
  15. So I'm roleplaying this character who is part of the Vigil of Stendarr and did all the quests that were added by this mod to the Vigil. I then uninstall the compatibility patch so that the Vigil is destroyed and go to join the Dawnguard, very impressed by the presentation I go off to the first mission and burn my way through vampire after vampire then I do this neat puzzle and there is this nonchalant vampire talking to me how I am supposed to help her escape and to top it all she is carrying an Elder Scroll. So as in every good roleplaying game I ask myself what would this character do that just lost all his brothers to vampires and killed a dozen already? Of course I attack and guess what ESSENTIAL! At this point I quit the game and I'm not sure I can continue to play Dawnguard at least not with this character or as a Vampire Hunter, I might just change her to non-essential kill her and stop the quest. How am I supposed to take any of this seriously? How can they NOT give you the option to kill her or at least give you any explanation why you shouldn't? /rant What do you think? Please no spoilers past the first mission.
